WWE has been no stranger to getting things wrong in recent months. The first RAW of the New Year didn't exactly have the impact the company may have been hoping for, and it mostly stems from their decision to avoid anointing Bron Breakker's arrival as the next top guy for the business.
Opting against putting the WWE World Heavyweight title around Breakker's waist felt like Triple H and Co. not reading the room, and it should be a concern moving forward. That being said, behind the scenes, it seems that there is still a pulse for what's needed.
In his latest YouTube vlog, Logan Paul revealed that he recently signed a long-term deal with WWE. While there's long been an expectation that Paul would get tired of the weekly grind of being a WWE superstar, with his new contract, the 30-year-old reveals that he is shedding the part-time label.
"It came at an insane time," Paul revealed. "I don't know what it means, but I actually just signed my official long-term contract with the WWE seconds ago... So, I'm officially a full-timer now. All you people saying I'm a part-timer can shut your mouths. Feels good. Feels good to have a job."
Shockingly, WWE reached the point where Logan Paul needs to be at the center of their programming.
Sure, given his YouTube background, Paul may never rid the reputation of being an "outsider" when it comes to the business. His rise was unique; he didn't spend years on the Independent scene only to eventually find his break. Instead, he was brought in — likely for the primary reason of continuing WWE's crossover with mainstream media — but he has proven to be an invaluable piece to their roster.
He's also passed every test that has been thrown his way. Paul held his own in a feud with Roman Reigns, not to mention it led to Reigns having one of the most memorable promos of his career.
Beyond that, Paul's matches remain appointment television. There was never doubt of his athleticism, but there was some question over how that would look in a ring. As it turns out, there's little that he isn't incapable of.
Paul's promo work remains green, but now working a storyline with Paul Heyman as part of The Vision, chances are we will see an improvement in the months ahead. If nothing else, his working with Heyman was likely be the final seal of approval WWE needed before agreeing to the long-term deal.
Development of young talent hasn't always been a strength of WWE's current leadership team, but with Logan Paul they may have hit a home run and they now have him in the fold for years to come.
