A major star of the All Elite Wrestling roster is going to miss time due to injury. Early in the April 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, commentators mentioned that the Death Riders attacked Jay White, but this was to cover an actual injury that would force him onto the sideline.
Fightful Select reported on Wednesday that the on-air announcement of the attack is a story to explain White’s absence from television. Fightful confirmed the injury and that White is going to have surgery. The report did not give information on the actual injury or how long he will be off television.
This led to what was described as “significant creative changes.” White has been removed from the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. He was a favorite to win the annual tournament, but that is no longer the case. He will be replaced by the new AEW signee, Kevin Knight, who White defeated in the latter’s debut match on AEW Collision. Knight will face Will Ospreay in the first round of the tournament.
Jay White faces another setback in AEW
In 2024, White was forced out due to a foot injury. He would miss time from July through October that year when he’s return to aid Juice Robinson. A multiple-time champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling, White’s booking in AEW hasn’t quite lived up to what fans had hoped to see. Winning the Owen Hart Tournament would have been a push in the right direction.
