Mustafa Ali signs with TNA Wrestling

Big news hit the wrestling industry on January 23. TNA Wrestling secured one of the biggest free agents, as Mustafa Ali has officially joined the company. Not only has he joined, but he has his eyes on the TNA World Championship. This is a huge get as Ali is one of the best names that was available on the market and adds an attraction to the promotion.

Ali appeared in his typical campaign outfit as the fans chanted his name and Santana looked on in confusion.

“I am here to officially announce that I, Mustafa Ali, have signed with TNA Wrestling,” Ali declared. “But folks, there’s work to be done. TNA needs great leadership, and I am that great leader. I want to give all of you something truly to believe in. So, ladies and gentlemen, I am launching a campaign. A campaign in which I become the next world heavyweight champion.”

Folks, it’s time to “Believe in Ali.” Since his sudden release from WWE on September 21, 2023, Ali has been on one of the best runs outside of major promotions. He’s shown up in several of the top companies in the business, including New Japan Pro Wrestling, GCW, Warrior Wrestling, Prestige Wrestling and more. He’s familiar to TNA was well because that is where he held the X-Division Championship for nearly 150 days in 2024. Ali is an example of how a performer can continue to craft a name for themselves outside the biggest companies in wrestling, making themselves more attractive along the way.

Ali is an interesting candidate to become the TNA World Champion. He has all the tools in the ring. Plus, he’s developed an amazing character outside of it. There are several big matches that he can have in TNA, picking up on his previous run. And he would be a compelling foil to current champion, Joe Hendry.

But let’s not forget about the new partnership between TNA Wrestling and WWE. Could Ali walk through the doors of his former employer, and give them a taste of what could have been? Perhaps. Not leveraging him at what is perhaps the height of his popularity would be a mistake. Ali versus individuals like Wes Lee, Dragon Lee, Carmelo Hayes, and several others would grab attention. A surprise appearance in WWE NXT would also be a sight to see. There are a lot of opportunities to explore.

Mustafa Ali signing to TNA Wrestling is big news. It will be interesting to see how he is pushed in this company and if that opens any doors with WWE. Ali is a beloved figure in the industry and he deserves this moment.
