Before All Out 2024, Mustafa Ali was rumored to have been backstage at All Elite Wrestling, sparking some involvement at the highly-rated PPV.

That never came to fruition, despite All Out taking place in the former WWE star's hometown of Chicago. Instead, he confirmed on X that he was meeting AEW fans outside of the venue.

This does however open up the possibility of a working relationship between Mustafa Ali and AEW somewhere down the line. Upon becoming a free agent in 2023, Ali has predominantly worked on the independent scene for promotions such as PROGRESS Wrestling, RevPro Wrestling, DEFY Wrestling, and even New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Most recently, the highflyer enjoyed a run as TNA X Division Champion before announcing his departure - a title once held by the likes of Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and Christopher Daniels. Ali has now left TNA Impact, which currently serves a working relationship with WWE. This opens the door for the Chicago native to be more likely than ever to sign a contract with AEW within the next year or two.

Where could Mustafa Ali fit in AEW?

AEW is currently stacked with high-flying wrestlers who can realistically serve as championship holders on a multitude of levels. The likes of newly-signed Ricochet, Will Ospreay, Hologram, Dante Martin, and more wrestle in a similar style to Ali. It is a highly saturated flavor of wrestling in an already stacked roster.

The advantage that Ali holds is that he is not restricted to one style of wrestling. As he has shown in many promotions that he has wrestled for, he is a versatile wrestler who is a good technical wrestler as he is aerially. AEW has demonstrated through the likes of Ospreay that wrestlers do not need to be restricted to one wrestling style to thrive.

This is arguably a problem that Ali had in WWE, where being on 205 Live limited his reach for many years before he was exposed to the main roster in the years that preceded his release from the company.

Since then, Ali has re-invented himself with an egoistical character that believes in his value. It has taken him to new heights in North American wrestling (and beyond).

The cliché of 'dream matches' is overused in modern-day wrestling. But the possibility of Ali wrestling the likes of Kenny Omega, Claudio Castagnoli, Darby Allin, and Will Ospreay all offer the great possibility of must-see television in different formats of wrestling.

AEW is a company where mid-card titles have heavily thrived. It would be quite appropriate for the former TNA star to challenge for a title such as the International Championship or the TNT Title where elevating this title has done wonders for wrestlers to challenge for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
