WWE Money in the Bank was live from Los Angeles, California, a location where the stars typically show up in style. Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker were in the crowd, and fans also noticed actress and wrestling fan Danielle Fishel sitting behind them. But it was another interesting duo that sparked a rumor online during the show. The Rock’s mother and daughter were sitting in the crowd, right behind Pat McAfee, causing many to speculate that The Final Boss would be in attendance. That would not be the case at all.
Any idea of The Rock being at a WWE event is going to cause massive speculation online. After the madness that was John Cena’s heel turn leading into WrestleMania 41, that angle became an instant controversy as both sides took subtle shots at one another.
Things would get even worse when WWE shifted the location of WrestleMania 42. The show was originally set for New Orleans, Louisiana, but that is no longer true. Instead, it will return to Las Vegas, Nevada for April 18 and 19. Remember that big promotional announcement The Rock did to reveal the location of the show a few months ago? Yea, that doesn’t mean anything anymore. Act like it didn’t happen.
Don’t expect The Rock to be involved with WWE any time soon
It’s best not to expect The Rock to make a major return anytime soon. The fallout from John Cena versus Cody Rhodes was enough to sour the relationship. Was it The Rock’s fault that the match didn’t have a quality build? What was the real plan for Cena’s heel turn and The Rock’s involvement at both Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania? Those questions may never be answered, but what is known is that things did not play out the best way.
If fans and media members are honest with themselves, things are better without The Rock. Yes, he’s a megastar, one of the biggest names in entertainment today. But when he pops back into the WWE for a quick side quest, his presence is only a disruption. He almost ruined the purpose of WrestleMania 40, but thankfully WWE shifted back to the right direction.
If he’s not going to return for a more “full-time” run and actually get involved on a weekly basis, he doesn’t need to be an on-air character that impacts the biggest angles on the show. If he’s not going to take any actual matches, he shouldn’t be a featured performer. The Rock can be used as a PR tool, for sure, but anything else only causes chaos because it doesn’t lead to anywhere purposeful.
When fans noticed The Rock’s mother and daughter in the crowd, hope spread that he’d be at WWE Money in the Bank. That was not the case, and after what he’s put fans through the last two years, The Rock not appearing is what’s best for business.
