All Elite Wrestling misses Kenny Omega
Eight months have passed since Kenny Omega performed in an AEW ring. A laundry list of injuries has cut into his time on the active roster in All Elite Wrestling, but the latest battle with diverticulitis has pushed him off the table indefinitely. Fans, critics, and colleagues alike continue to wish for his healthy and successful recovery. But it’s still a clear fact that AEW misses “The Best Bout Machine.”
Kenny Omega is one of the most important people in All Elite Wrestling. Whenever he’s around, his presence immediately elevates everyone else on the roster. It’s like they feed off his energy to step up their game. 2024 has been a year in which the company has built a strong roster through free agency with signings that include the likes of Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone. Yet, there’s still something that Omega brings to the roster that is missing since he’s been away.
Omega is one of those beloved wrestlers in the industry that no one can say anything negative about. With so many despicable people throughout professional wrestling, it’s hard to find anything controversial to say about Omega, even as his stature grew. There were moments when some tried to catch him with tough questions or asked for comments about negative situations, and he’s continuing to navigate them with grace. That’s the type of energy that is needed in wrestling, and especially in AEW as the locker room seems to continue to find itself caught up in controversy.
According to a May 23 Fightful Select report, Omega underwent surgery on May 16 while in New York. At that time, there were no creative plans for him as he expected it to take a long time to recover. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer commented that Omega is in the gym training, he’s coming back and it won’t be “months and months away.” Kota Ibushi, another loved wrestling star, hinted at a reunion with Omega when he returns from injuries as well. Those recent developments give fans hope that they will see him in the months to come.
AEW has set up perfect angles for Omega’s return as well. There’s a big feud waiting for him with The Elite, specifically Okada and Jack Perry. Seeing him return to do battle against those two men, Ospreay, “Hangman” Adam Page, Swerve Strickland, or even Bryan Danielson are the exact type of matches that would get fans to their feet.
There’s a lot to get excited about within All Elite Wrestling. One of those exciting moments comes when “Battle Cry” hits and Omega makes his way to the ring. Injuries have hampered his last few years, but here’s to hoping he returns soon as AEW badly misses one of the best wrestlers in the world.
