Business is set to pick up in All Elite Wrestling
The September 25 edition of AEW Dynamite featured an interesting surprise. Prince Nana was having a conversation with Tony Schiavone about the status of former AEW Champion, Swerve Strickland. Before he could finish, Nana would be interrupted by none other than MVP. It was a moment in which the multiple-time former champion would hint at “business” sending the speculation train into full speed.
On Wednesday, Fightful Select reported that MVP is officially signed to All Elite Wrestling. MVP has held championships in nearly every major organization in the industry. The last few years, he’s slid into the manager's role perfectly. It is who he’s managed that has fans excited. Does this mean Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley may be headed to All Elite Wrestling? Hopefully so, because that would be an interesting spark for the company.
MVP, Lashley, and Benjamin are three quarters of the famed Hurt Business. A group that was one of the best parts of professional wrestling during the dreaded Covid-19 era. But WWE didn’t give this group the care and booking that fans wanted to see; an issue that continues to haunt a specific segment of the roster. If they are heading to AEW, will Tony Khan do better by them?
A trio of Lashley, Benjamin, and MVP are a main event act. They can easily be a group that carries important championships and get featured near the top of the card on a consistent basis. But AEW’s main event scene is stacked, but they’d fit right in alongside groups like The Elite and Blackpool Combat Club. Think about it. Lashley versus Kazuchika Okada or Jon Moxley. Benjamin versus Claudio Castagnoli or Bryan Danielson. Go ahead and book those matches Tony Khan, the people need them. If AEW is truly the alternative to WWE, booking three of the biggest and most important Black men to step into professional wrestling as the top names that fans have wanted them to be would be a step in the right direction.
Is business picking up in AEW? It seems that way. MVP’s appearance set off a wave of excitement for something that may be coming. If that something includes the force of Lashley and Benjamin, that will be a move that brings a lot of positive momentum to the organization.
