Dante Martin should win the AEW Royal Rampage
All Elite Wrestling keeps the big matches coming and another was announced just hours before AEW Blood and Guts. To go along with that huge matchup, the Royal Rampage will set someone up with an opportunity to compete for the AEW World Championship at Grand Slam. Looking at the roster, this should be a moment that someone like Dante Martin is given a “heat check” type of push into the main event.
Details about the upcoming match are sparse, as no information is available about who is even in the match. This is an understandable tactic, as it creates an air of surprise for all those in the match. Yet, this is also an opportunity to generate some buzz behind someone and “test” their market in the eyes of fans as a main event talent.
Fans have long been behind Dante Martin. Many hoped that he would get a true singles push when his brother, Darius, was out due to injury. That moment never came, and even worse it doesn’t seem like they will get a solid push as a tag team. Still, Martin has some cache when it comes to fans as a potential champion of the future. At 23 years old, he’s someone who has a lot of room to grow as a performer and as a character, and AEW should be invested in that growth for the long term.
Swerve Strickland is a busy man. He’s heading into the Blood and Guts battle and already has a bout against Bryan Danielson on the horizon after that at AEW All In on August 24. Grand Slam is scheduled for September 25, almost a month to the day later. Strickland may not be the champion coming out of All In but pitting him or Danielson against Martin would be an amazing match. One that could be seen as either performer giving Martin the rub for the future. Much like the moments with Bret Hart and the 1-2-3 Kid or Kurt Angle and John Cena. AEW could have its own moment by giving Dante Martin two big wins to begin a shift toward a single push of his own.
The Royal Rampage set for AEW is an opportunity for the company to do something different and inject some excitement at a time when it could help. Giving a big victory to Dante Martin would go a long way for both his immediate and long-term growth in the company.
