Logan Paul vs Kevin Owens will be a fun match at Royal Rumble 2024

Another match is set for the 2024 Royal Rumble as Kevin Owens will look to take the WWE United States Championship from around Logan Paul’s waist. Whether the strong opinion of Paul as an individual, he excels at what WWE wants from its performers, sports entertainment. This is the right match to make as it will both elevate Paul as a WWE star and build the title with an important challenger in KO. But don’t expect Canada’s favorite son to walk out with the championship.

Let’s get the tough part out of the way early, Logan Paul is going to defeat Kevin Owens and retain the WWE United States Championship. Owens continued anger at Grayson Waller and Austin Theory opens the door for them to interfere and find a way to cost KO the title. That outcome will not surprise many, as the point of this match is to elevate Paul as a name on the WWE roster. As a multimedia star, he taps into the market that WWE wants to capture. More than the promotion’s desire to see KO as a midcard champion.

The big problem that many have with Paul is that he’s an absent champion. In fact, other than Iyo Sky, SmackDown is entirely made up of absent champions. Paul and Roman Reigns are rarely on the show and the SmackDown Tag Team titles are in the hands of Judgement Day over on Monday Night Raw. Even without their champions, SmackDown is still a strong enough show each week to beat back the urgency of getting a champion back on the platform more consistently. KO would fit that space well, but unfortunately, this isn’t the time when he’ll come out with a title in his hands.

WrestleMania 40 is the place where Paul will drop the belt to someone on the roster. Perhaps that comes in a multi-man match that includes all the individuals mentioned above. Paul has flirted with the idea of being a full-time champion and performer, but that doesn’t seem like it is for the cards. He won the championship back in November and has yet to defend it. In the same way, GUNTHER has elevated the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Paul has diminished the title even more. Taking the belt off him will hopefully help guide things in a better direction, but that will not happen at the first PLE of 2024.

Logan Paul’s position as WWE United States Champion is meant to grab headlines and social media clips for WWE. While he’s facing a man that he shouldn’t beat in Kevin Owens, classic wrestling shenanigans will prevail and his title run will continue at least until WrestleMania 40 a few short months later.
