Triple H's comments on Brock Lesnar should raise eyebrows

Triple H hinted that the ball is in Brock Lesnar's court on a potential return and that should not be the case.

Brock Lesnar was a major star for WWE, capable of drawing eyeballs whenever he was inserted into a storyline. However, this year saw that come to an end when Lesnar was implicated, but not outright named, in the Janel Grant lawsuit versus Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and the WWE. Triple H recently commented on Lesnar and it seems like that door is more open than expected. Still, WWE should stay as far away from Lesnar as possible until the complete legal process has been completed.

Triple H and Nick Khan were in the United Kingdom to meet with the Mayor of London to discuss the possibility of WrestleMania being held in London. During that trip he was asked about the status of Lesnar.

“You’d have to ask Brock Lesnar that,” Triple H said while speaking with The Daily Mail. “Brock kind of does his own thing. He’s up in Canada, I’m sure, watching his kids play hockey and enjoying life. If and when he decides he would like to do something, we’d be open to the conversation. We’ll see.”

That’s an interesting 180-degree turn from WWE’s stance on Lesnar throughout this year. While he hasn’t been outright discussed, he was quickly removed from creative plans for Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. From there, he was also removed from the WWE 2K video game. He hasn’t been seen on television or mentioned since.

That’s understandable, looking at how he was referenced in Grant’s lawsuit that alleges serious transgressions. It would be promotional malpractice on several levels to feature Lesnar on television as that legal process continued. Think about the backlash and questions that would come if the organization willingly brought Lesnar back into the fold while these allegations were still present. Resolving legal matters such as these can take years, and there’s no telling what information will come out. The lawsuit is currently in a “stay” period as many believe that there’s potential for this to turn from a civil case, into criminal proceedings. This isn’t the time to even hint at Lesnar’s return until all of this is solved and anything outside of that is problematic.

Even outside of the legal matters, WWE does not need Lesnar. McMahon leaned on him to bring in ratings and buzz rather than leverage the rest of the roster. Triple H has done a good job building interest in the company without using names from the past. Bringing Lesnar back will take time and momentum away from others on the roster that need it.

Triple H’s vague response about Brock Lesnar’s status with the WWE should raise eyebrows. Right now, the organization should not have any interest in the former champion until all the legal proceedings are complete. Nothing else. Anything outside of that is a huge mistake. And if there’s more that comes out involving Lesnar and he’s found culpable, he should be done with the company forever.
