Professional wrestling has a wealth of talented individuals in front and behind the camera. However, time and again many are “fumbled” in the eyes of wrestling fans and media personalities. That idea came up again on March 26 as news broke that Gail Kim and several others were fired from TNA. It was news that caught the wrestling community off guard. Kim is a talented performer and voice backstage. Regardless of the promotion, she’s someone that the industry needs.

Fightful Select reported on the news on Wednesday, and shortly followed up with additional information that put a spotlight on how valued Kim was seen in the company.

“Over a dozen TNA talent reached out to Fightful regarding the news of Gail Kim’s firing, which was met with shock, disbelief, and anger,” the Fightful Report stated. “It was a unanimously unpopular move based on those we spoke to, with at least one talent said that it made the decision for them to not remain in the company when their deal was up.”

Kim was a voice for women’s wrestling in TNA. She frequently speaks up about the state of women’s division and wrestling entirely – always using her voice to speak out in an industry where too many keep quiet. This, along with her sheer volume and experience in the business makes her invaluable to lose.

Gail Kim is a first-ballot Hall of Famer

Gail Kim’s in-ring resume doesn’t get talked about enough. Even though she took part in a multi-woman match in 2023, she’s been retired since 2019. That final match closed out a career that spanned some pivital years in the development of women’s wrestling as a main event attraction.

Kim’s a seven-time TNA/Impact Women’s Knockout Champion and a one-time WWE Women’s Champion. That WWE Women’s Championship came at a time when the WWE women’s divisions featured some highly touted workers like Ivory, Jazz, Jacqueline, and Molly Holly. While they were never truly booked to the levels of their skill, Kim truly stood out among the pack. Her run in TNA helped elevate her in a way that led to her successful transition backstage.

The Fightful Select report would go on to say that sources in both AEW and WWE expect Kim to get interest in varies ways in wrestling. Both organizations could use her as a producer and trainer, but she could even work as an on-air talent. Kim is 48 years old, so she may not have the desire to step into the ring, but there’d be no doubts that she could physically hang in sporadic matches. There are so many ways that Kim could have an (pun intended) impact, that some organization has to find a way to sign her.

Gail Kim is a voice that professional wrestling needs. After hearing about her firing, every promotion in the business should rush to find a way to bring her into the fold for the future of women’s wrestling.
