Money in the Bank season is gearing up. Each year, holding the briefcase is seen as an opportunity to push a performer into the main event picture. Looking across the men’s and women’s divisions, there are several individuals who need the briefcase as a way to build their momentum for the rest of 2025. For the men’s division, this should be the year that Sami Zayn gets the contract in his hands.
As a babyface, Sami Zayn is the perfect WWE personality. Ever since he stepped into NXT, he’s been able to generate babyface reactions at a moment’s notice. Even in the times when he was supposed to be a heel, it was always done in a way where people could say, “you know, he does have a point.”
However, Zayn always felt just a touch outside of the main event picture. It was clear that WWE did not see him as a top-level name. He’d always be behind individuals like Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. But the same could be said about Jey Uso. In 2025, he found a way to rise to the top of the card. While some have negative opinions about how he’s been pushed, fan reaction remains strong. Zayn could have a similar run, but instead of going through the Royal Rumble, getting his hands on the briefcase would allow him to set his own path.
Sami Zayn as the Money in the Bank briefcase holder would be big
Sami Zayn with the briefcase would be an excellent way to tell yet another underdog story. He’s played this role several times, but holding a guaranteed ticket to a title shot would present it in a different fashion.
The fans would be behind him the whole way. Zayn remains one of the more popular men on the roster, even though he consistently does not get the big wins when they matter the most. Look back to the reaction fans had for him when he defeated GUNTHER at WrestleMania 40, even as Chad Gable was getting his own support from the fans. Zayn’s win had one of the biggest reactions of the weekend.
Sami Zayn would work as a WWE Champion. WWE can take the simple path to tell that story, pitting him as the underdog as they typically do. But seeing him call his shot with the Money in the Bank briefcase, much like Rob Van Dam did years ago, that’s the angle that would finally place him in the main event with the biggest title win of his career.
