There are several stories going on across main roster WWE programing. Many of which in the men’s division are intertwined in ways that make it interesting to watch unfold. One such continued to develop on the January 27 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw. Sami Zayn accidentally laid out Cody Rhodes while his old friend Kevin Owens looked on. This is the second time Zayn has done this in as many weeks, setting up an idea that perhaps he and Owens will find themselves paired together again. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are two of the best storytellers in professional wrestling and they would have an amazing tale to tell in WWE.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have decades of history. Multiple times they’ve continued to tell their story, winding it in and out of their current position on the WWE roster. The latest example saw them win the WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 39. Whether it’s on the same side, or standing across from each other, Zayn and Owens have the ability to get everyone interested in everything they do.

Imagine what they could do in a time when WWE is putting more emphasis on consistent stories and engaging story telling. Rhodes has held the WWE Undisputed Championship for nearly a year, but there’s a growing contingent of fans who want to see him lose that championship to Owens. Owens has been one of the best performers in the WWE for years, but he’s never been positioned as the top star. Even when he was the WWE Universal Champion. Zayn is another who has always had fan backing, but perhaps not the support behind the scenes to be positioned as the top star.

One thing WWE is doing today is crafting its heels as performers who have a “point.” At least in the men’s division. These are individuals who have been scorned, most likely by Roman Reigns and the Bloodline. Zayn and Owens are two individuals who know that battle. This is why Owens has turned on Rhodes. But for Zayn, he could simply be tired of being the one to come to everyone’s aid while not being focused on his well-being. He’s been just a tier below the best in WWE for too long, now is the time for him to take his position at the top.

The only issue is that WWE has a long list of heels at or near the main event level. Expectations are that Cody Rhodes will turn as well, adding another big name to that list. Would the pairing of Owens and Zayn oversaturate the top of the card?

Years ago, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H ran amok as the 2 Man Power Trip. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn don’t even need all the titles to have an impactful run of their own but pairing them at the top of the card would be a captivating story to watch unfold.
