The holiday season opens the door for spoilers throughout professional wrestling and a big one is coming for the December 17 edition of AEW Dynamite. During the contract signing between Samoa Joe, “Hangman” Adam Page, and Swerve Strickland a top star returned to the show. That top star is MJF and it looks like he’s gunning for the championship.
Spoilers for the taped show have revealed that MJF is back. Not only is he back, but he has inserted himself into the title picture. He’s now added to the AEW World Championship match scheduled to go down at AEW World’s End on December 27. On December 8, Fightful Select reported that MJF was set to be factored into the plans for the PPV, and now it is more clear exactly where he will fit.
MJF last appeared on AEW television back on September 20 at AEW All Out when he lost a tables match to Mark Briscoe. MJF hasn’t been as active in AEW due to other commitments as his brand continues to grow. But with the New Year right around the corner, the timing is perfect heading into the last major show of the year.
MJF is coming back at the right time
MJF will always be a major return. Anytime he comes back, he infuses excitement into the program. Slotting him back into the title picture is the right move, because AEW needed something “new” at the top. Page, Strickland, and Joe have remained around the title for quite some time. MJF isn’t new to challenging for the championship, but he’s been out of the picture since he last lost the belt. He dropped the title to Joe at World’s End 2023, and has been out of the title picture since.
All Elite Wrestling needed a shock to the system. While still popular with its fanbase, the show has lost some momentum. Bringing MJF back will help change that and it will be interesting to see if the company puts the championship on his waist heading into 2026.
