On the March 14 edition of WWE SmackDown, The Street Profits picked up a big win over DIY, securing the WWE Tag Team Championship. Fans were elated with this victory that came as much of a surprise. SmackDown has slowly done strong work to rebuild tag team wrestling on the show, and here’s to hoping this win not only continues that trend but leads to something sustained and relevant for both Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford.
The Street Profits are a fan-favorite duo. Since their days in WWE NXT, Ford and Dawkins have consistently received strong reactions from fans. When they made it to the main roster, many expected them to have a consistent push as an important team, but that never truly materialized.
This is their fourth title run under the WWE and the first since their last ended in 2021. Along the way, WWE has teased everything from a big partnership with Bobby Lashley, a split, to additional title runs – none of which actually happened. Many thought that Ford would be a breakout singles wrestler, but Dawkins has shown he has much to offer in that department as well. None of that looked like it was possible heading into 2025, but things seem to be looking up for the Street Profits.
Both The Street Profits and tag team wrestling need this push
If WWE is really going to commit to a strong build for the tag team division, this is the time to do it. Look at the depth in this tag team division. The Street Profits, DIY, Motor City Machine Guns, Pretty Deadly, Los Garza, and potentially the addition of The Lucha Bros, there’s so much opportunity within that group. Leveraging a beloved team like The Street Profits with a lengthy run builds everything around them. The work started with MCMG versus DIY, and now is the time to continue moving it forward.
At the same time, Ford and Dawkins need a strong push to reassert themselves as stars in WWE. There’s still the call for both men to find their way into the singles division. There’s too much potential to go to waste in those runs.
