For wrestling fans, November means WarGames. All Elite Wrestling just had two Blood and Guts matches, while WWE is preparing to put on November 29. This is a big match that brings together several of the top men and women, puts them on teams and lets them go wild in the steel cage. While these matches are typically a fun and violent train wreck, they are starting to lose their luster without worthwhile stakes.
For the men, it looks like Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, and Jey Uso have to find some teammates as Drew McIntyre has joined Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed. The women are still their teams together as well. Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss, and IYO SKY need to find teammates to stand with them against Nia Jax, Lash Legend, and the Kabuki Warriors.
All teams will have five members take part. Anyone familiar with these matches know that they are carnage incarnate, where anything may happen. But why? Does McIntyre get another title shot against Rhodes if his team wins? If one of the women pins Bliss (or Charlotte Flair who will eventually join), does that line them up for a shot at the tag team titles?
As of now, and in past matches, these teams come together, have a heinous match, and go right back to their normal duties as if nothing happened. That's the issue. Just like the elimination style matches from years ago, those matches grew stagnant because nothing was on the line. "Brand Supremacy" didn't mean a thing, and Survivor Series became more of a "skippable" PLE. WarGames is heading for the same direction if something doesn't change with the overall booking of these matches.
Creative direction is a big reason why wrestling fans watch their favorite programs week-to-week. WWE is struggling in several ways to develop consistently good creative. That issue is plaguing the development of WWE Survivor Series WarGames as these matches do not have any true stakes or reasons. That needs to change at some point in the future.
