John Cena is the Undisputed WWE Champion and opinions of his reigns vary greatly. There are those that love his work, and some questioning the creative direction. He’s coming off a victorious title defense against Randy Orton, and there’s speculation that his next feud is set to feature none other than R-Truth. It’s a move that makes all the sense in the world when looking at their history together.

John Cena versus R-Truth makes sense at this time

John Cena versus R-Truth is a feud that WWE needed to put together for Cena’s final run. If this retirement tour is meant to be filled with callbacks to his history, Truth plays a key part in that. Saturday Night’s Main Event is the right spot for this match, as it gives WWE a quick turnaround to build it up without having to commit weeks’ worth of content to frame Truth as a legit contender.

Listen. R-Truth isn’t going to beat John Cena. He’s not even going to come close. Other than his brief run as tag team champion with The Miz in 2024, it has been six years since he’s held a legitimate champion. Truth is 53 years old and a comedy act at this point in his career. A great one, but still mostly seen as a comedy act. Still, this has the potential to be an interesting story if told correctly.

After the Backlash broadcast ended the cameras kept rolling, capturing what looked like Cena, showing remorse or regret for his recent actions. Many pointed to that as a signal that Cena’s redemption is going to be the next and final part of this arc, leading through to his retirement in December. Truth is going to play a part in that. Focusing on their time together as teammates and foes, the story is there to tell about Truth’s impact on Cena’s legacy. Even though his current character plays the joke of being John Cena’s biggest fan, expect there to be some type of exchange between the two that begins to pull Cena back from the proverbial darkness. If done right, this should be a fun one to watch unfold.

John Cena’s next scheduled appearance is for the upcoming WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24. Expectations are that he will face off against R-Truth in a mini-feud to keep the title active on a big show. The outcome of the match is easy to predict, but the story should be an interesting one if done correctly.
