Who are the "pillars" of WWE NXT on CW
WWE NXT has entered a new era by switching from the USA Network to the CW. Not only that but also switching from black and gold and getting an entirely new revamped brand look with silver and black. Honestly, with the switching of channels and the direction the show was heading, it was time for an overhaul of the brand entirely.
For so long, WWE NXT was known for its rough and hardcore black-and-gold days. The new era of NXT is much more focused on the developmental aspect and puts a more plethoric amount of attention on the women's division. Some will still not agree, but WWE NXT is the best weekly wrestling show in all of professional wrestling and has been for quite a while. The combination of character development, wrestling ability, storytelling, and diversity being displayed in NXT is unmatched.
Being in attendance at NXT's debut show in Chicago on the CW, it was clear to see who the pillars will be for the new era of NXT on CW. I've got three superstars who will serve as the face of the brand in the new era.
Giulia
Although she didn't win the NXT Women's Championship right away in her first match against Roxanne Perez, Giulia is clearly the future of the brand and the women's division on WWE NXT.
If Giulia won the title right away, it would've felt more like an indication she won't be in NXT long. It appears that Shawn Michaels is taking the long approach with Giulia and she will serve as a face of the women's division moving forward. Perez has built the title up so much with her current title reign, that it will be a huge deal when she loses the title, and it may still be Giulia who eventually dethrones her.
She is a worldwide star and the moment she made her presence known on the show, she became the biggest babyface in the women's division on NXT. Right now she's teaming up with Stephanie Vaquer, who could also be looked at as a pillar moving forward, but it's been enjoyable seeing these two women teaming together. Between them and Zaria (formerly known as Delta), there is a new International flavor on NXT and it brings a new element.
Kelani Jordan
Speaking of the women's division, let's take a moment to appreciate the work that Kelani Jordan has done as the first NXT Women's North American Champion. Jordan made history and has elevated the title by making it important in such a short time. If the WWE Universe wasn't behind the champion before her successful title defense against Sol Ruca, they definitely became fans afterward.
At the CW debut in Chicago, Jordan brought friends with her to help her take out Fatal Influence -- she teased teaming up with WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair, who defeated Fatal Influence the following week in St. Louis in a 6-woman tag match. Her reign has been quite enjoyable and it will only get sweeter when she eventually goes for the NXT Women's Championship.
Oba Femi
The only reason I didn't name Oba Femi first was because, to be honest, I'm not sure he will be called up the main roster in the next WWE Draft -- he's that good. After becoming the longest reigning NXT North American Champion in history, Femi has become the most dominating and intimidating force on the roster. He has a rematch against Tony D'Angelo at Halloween Havoc this weekend, but win or lose this clip tells me that NXT is cooking something else up. Maybe a new faction?
If this does indicate that he will be staying a while, Femi will win the NXT Championship and become the face of the show. He's supposed to be a heel, but the fans love him so much it doesn't come off that way. He would be a great superstar to carry the men's division in the new era of NXT on the CW.
Je'Von Evans
Je'Von Evans has become one of the most exciting superstars to watch on NXT and he's only 20 years old. His future is bright and will be a future champion. Whether or not he wins the NXT North American title first or the NXT title, he will be a champion next year.
He's already had shots at the NXT title alongside Trick Williams, Ethan Page, and Wes Lee, but so far it has just been a way to include him with the brand's best so he can learn. A good indicator of how much Michaels believes in Evans was putting him against Randy Orton in St. Louis for the second week on the CW. Other than that minor mishap at the end, Evans held his own with one of the all-time greats. Being so young, he has plenty of time to fine-tune some things develop his "bouncy" gimmick, and turn into championship gold.
Cora Jade
The last pillar for the new era in NXT is Cora Jade. Let's not forget where she was before she went down with her ACL, MCL, and meniscus tear back in January. Jade was headed towards a championship reign and instead watched her former tag team partner Perez become one of the greatest NXT Women's Champions in history. Although they're together now, it will only end one way and that is Jade turning on her and either being the reason Perez loses or becomes the woman the dethrone Perez and end her title reign. However long this takes, Jade is definitely a pillar for NXT's new era on the CW as well.
