WWE must treat Evolution 2 as a major PLE

Doing anything less, especially against AEW All-In, will draw the ire of fans who love women's wrestling.

Women’s wrestling continues to be one of the driving forces of fan engagement across professional wrestling. WWE has a stacked roster that they continue to feature each week, even as fans push for more. Well, that “more” may come together as the second edition of the all-women’s PLE, Evolution. That comes with a catch though, if the rumors are true the show goes head-to-head against AEW’s flagship show, All-In. That means WWE must go above and beyond to make this show special on a big date in the industry.

WWE Evolution 2 has been a hot topic across wrestling for several months to years. The first event happened back on October 28, 2018, and fans have wanted it to become an annual showcase since. Reports started to pop up that WWE is planning the event for July 2025, but it has yet to be confirmed.

On Monday, May 12, PWInsider reported that WWE is looking to schedule WWE Evolution 2 for July 12. That’s the same day as AEW All-In. To take things a step further, WWE is also booking a Saturday Night’s Main Event for the Saturday prior in an attempt to take all the air out of the room on a big wrestling weekend. Fightful Select reported that the individuals they've spoken to have yet to be informed about the event.

While shady business practices are the norm for WWE, the focus must remain on how important Evolution 2 is for the women’s division. If this event is really going to go against AEW’s biggest PPV, then WWE must come correct with how this card is built and produced.

WWE Evolution 2 must be treated like a priority event

The WWE women’s division deserves this show to be treated like a big deal. With the roster they have today, that PLE has the potential to be as well-received as any across professional wrestling. This roster includes performers like IYO Sky, Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, Naomi, Roxanne Perez, Jordynne Grace, Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, Candice LeRae, Piper Niven, and several others. The women in WWE can not only go hard in the ring, but they typically have amazing characters when given the opportunity to show them off.

The other side of the conversation is that if this show doesn’t “do well” against All-In, that is not a testament to the women’s drawing power. If that argument is ever used when it comes to making this an annual show, then WWE will once again spit in the face of wrestling fans. The viewing community, especially the group that follows women’s wrestling closely, is smarter than that and this division does not deserve that form of gaslighting.

WWE Evolution 2 has not been officially announced, but there are reports that it is coming in hot. WWE has the resources and talent to make this a banger of a card. Delivering on that would be a big ordeal and it’s exactly what should happen.
