WWE Saturday Night's Main Event is another throwaway show that will have a plethora of matches booked in a contrived manner. The following matches have been made official so far: Gunther (c) vs. Goldberg for the World Title, Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton, and Seth Rollins vs. LA Knight. This event is special mainly due to Goldberg's retirement match in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
Gunther (c) vs. Goldberg [World Heavyweight Championship]
At Bad Blood in October, Gunther told Goldberg that he lied about Goldberg being his favorite and that Goldberg is a one-trick pony. Gunther disrespected Goldberg in front of his family, and Goldberg is not going to just sit there and take that. WWE did a good job at selling this story, especially with Goldberg's intense interview with Michael Cole as well as promo packages showcasing his career. Although the story is built for Goldberg to get his revenge, it is still poised as Goldberg's last match, and Goldberg should go out on his back, as Gunther will retire Goldberg for good in the main event.
Prediction: Gunther
Aleister Black vs. Damian Priest (w/Ron Killings) [Personal Rivalry]
Aleister Black currently has a feud with Ron Killings merely because Ron Killings interrupted him while he was trying to discuss his future on SmackDown with GM Nick Aldis. Damian Priest, who has a history with Ron Killings during their time in the Judgment Day, is a bit upset that Aleister Black took out his aggression on Ron Killings. This is just a filler feud to provide momentum for Aleister Black in his future push as a singles star, whilst Priest and Killings will likely target the tag titles together as a consolation prize for how over Ron Killings is and how directionless Priest is on SmackDown.
Prediction: Aleister Black
Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton [Personal Rivalry]
Drew McIntyre will defeat Randy Orton because it will be his return to in-ring action ever since being written off after losing his Steel Cage Match to Damian Priest back in May. It is a tad befuddling as to why Orton is being booked to lose in big matches on PPV almost every month. At some point, WWE will have to tell a story with those losses and turn him heel so that he can regain momentum in the way he knows best. Although this is a randomly booked match, these two have a ton of history that they can fall back on to make it a tad meaningful. Their directions to SummerSlam remain a mystery.
Prediction: Drew McIntyre
Dominick Mysterio (c) vs. AJ Styles [IC Title]
At first, it seemed that Finn Balor would be the primary choice to dethrone Dominick Mysterio due to the storyline going on. However, now that Judgment Day won the tag titles, that seems less likely. Mysterio will instead likely get screwed out of the IC Title by Finn Balor, so that Mysterio is the only member left in Judgment Day without gold. This would lead to Balor helping his Bullet Club pal in AJ Styles earn a hometown championship victory in Atlanta, GA. Also, Styles has been directionless and really needs to get back in the ballgame after a loss to Logan Paul at WrestleMania.
Prediction: AJ Styles
Seth Rollins vs. LA Knight
Although LA Knight desperately needs a victory, Seth Rollins will win this match to continue solidifying his faction and his journey to becoming a future world champion. Hopefully, baby faces like Sami Zayn, Penta, Jey Uso, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk can get their comeuppance on Rollins and his dangerous alliance by SummerSlam. By then, Rollins will have solidified his faction to the point that they can finally take a loss and not be hurt by it. However, a nefarious victory here is warranted with a new member added to his faction, such as Karrion Kross or the rumored Ricky Saints.
Prediction: Seth Rollins
