Randy Orton is a staple in WWE. With 25 years in the industry, it would be blasphemy to see him appear in any other promotion. Since returning at Survivor Series 2023, Orton has been on an enjoyable run in the company. He’s positioned as an “elder-stateman” on SmackDown and it’s a role that he’s playing well to this point. “Old Man Orton” is the career arc that no one knew he’d thrive in but thrive is exactly what he’s doing.

Randy Orton is a “made man” by all standards in WWE. He’s an individual who will be a part of the company for as long as he wants, in whatever capacity he wants. A Hall of Fame and Legend’s Deal are all but guaranteed whenever he retires. At 44 years old, that time is closer than it was in years past. WWE is doing a great job leveraging Orton at this point in his career.

Orton is in the perfect position as Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes battle each other. He’s playing the role of “mediator” between the two, but everyone familiar with Orton knows it is just a matter of time before the former champion turns on Rhodes. He, just like Owens, would be in the right to be upset with Rhodes for teaming with Roman Reigns. But right now, Orton is trying to bring peace to the matter furthers the narrative that he’s now the mature, locker-room leader.

Orton even went down to NXT and played that role perfectly. When Je’Von Evans made a mistake in what was the big closing spot of their main event match, Orton picked up the 20-year-old performer and consoled him at that moment. More than a decade ago he berated Kofi Kingston in a way that hindered his career for years. Many online immediately called out that growth and praised Orton in the moment.

Randy Orton’s in-ring work hasn’t changed much during his 25-year career. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from loving what he brings to the ring. The “Old Man” Orton gimmick has been enjoyable so far and has the potential to be one of the best of his runs to date.
