WWE to dedicate an episode of Monday Night Raw to The New Day
One of the most talked about stories happening on WWE Monday Night Raw is the developing angle between Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. For months, the two have been at odds about the direction of The New Day as they struggle to get back to their winning ways. In a social media clip on November 4, WWE Raw General Manager, Adam Pearce, informed Kofi Kingston that there will be a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the faction. The moment some fans have dreaded and others have waited to see seems to be here finally.
In a social media video Pearce approached Kingston about the special episode.
“This year, ten years as New Day. It’s time to celebrate man,” Pearce said. “You guys are one of the most decorated tag teams in WWE history. Because of that, if it’s cool with you guys, I actually wanted to dedicate a special episode of Raw to celebrating you. An entire episode, if its cool with you guys.”
Now, for those that are familiar with sports entertainment, especially WWE’s presentation of it – it is typically easy to predict what will happen in situations like this. One partner will turn on the other, kicking off an epic feud that hopefully launches one of the two into a strong singles run.
This situation is quite different, however. On one hand, fans expect Woods’s frustrations to finally push him to the breaking point, severing the ties with Kingston. On the other hand, what if Kingston struck first, tired of being blamed for the team’s shortcomings the last few months?
There’s also the possibility that this moment could mark Big E’s return to television. Since the catastrophic injury he suffered more than two years ago, Big E hasn’t been on television in a storyline role. He’s appeared during commentary roles before PPVs and in other situations, but nothing dealing with The New Day as characters on television. If his music hits and he make an appearance during this segment, the fans will lose their minds. He’s either the glue that brings the faction back together, or he’s going to witness the implosion as well. Either way, Big E must be involved in this tribute episode to push the story into its next phase.
New Day remains one of the most important factions in professional wrestling history. Big E, Xavier Woods, and Kofi Kingston have achieved things that were not available for individuals who looked like them for generations, and they did it together. If this is truly the end of this faction, even if just for a time, WWE must tell this story right and give it the time needed to be a hit with their fans and peers.
