WWE Survivor Series – Who Survived?

facebooktwitterreddit

Did you not order the Survivor Series PPV or didn’t have a friend’s house where you could go watch it?  No worries, I did!  So here’s how things went down:

Team Morrison (John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, Shelton Benjamin & Finlay) vs. Team Miz (The Miz, Sheamus, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, & Dolph Ziggler)

Winners: Team Miz; Survivors: The Miz, Drew McIntyre, and Sheamus
Order of elimination: Dolph Ziggler, Evan Bourne, Finlay, Jack Swagger, Shelton Benjamin, Matt Hardy, John Morrison

This match up didn’t have as many high spots as I expected.  Evan Bourne hit his finisher before he got eliminated, but really, that was about it for high risk maneuvers.  Drew McIntyre and Sheamus tied for the most eliminations with two each.  I’m a little shocked that the rivalry between The Miz and Jack Swagger didn’t come into play whatsoever.

Rey Mysterio via Batista

Winner: Batista via referee stoppage after he destroyed Mysterio with a spine buster, a spear, and three Batista Bombs.  After the match up Batista brought a chair into the ring and hit another spine buster on Mysterio on the chair.  Mysterio was then strapped to a back board, put in a neck brace, and stretchered out of the arena.  Batista was cheer throughout most of the match up; he’s billed from Washington DC, where this event took place.

Team Kingston (Kofi Kingston, Christian, MVP, Mark Henry & R-Truth) vs. Team Orton (Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, William Regal & CM Punk)

Winners: Team Kingston; Survivor: Kofi Kingston
Order of elimination: Mark Henry, R-Truth, Ted DiBiase, William Regal, MVP, Cody Rhodes, Christian, CM Punk, Randy Orton

The best part of this match up is when it got down to the final three, Kofi versus CM Punk and Randy Orton.  It essentially became a match in it’s own right between Kingston and Punk and lasted about 5-10 minutes on their own in the ring.  The finish was priceless!  Kofi went for the Boom Drop, and Orton distracted him.  Punk tried to roll up Kingston, but it was reversed into a roll up of his own for a 3-count on Punk.  Orton immediately jumps into the ring and gets hit by Trouble in Paradise for the Team Kingston victory!

World Title Match
The Undertaker (champion) vs. Chris Jericho vs. Big Show

Winner: The Undertaker via submission due to the Hell’s Gate on Big Show.  Before the finish, both Jericho and Show had near fall attempts on Taker broken up by their tag team partner.  Jericho felt the fury of Big Show’s KO Punch, and Taker then caught Show unaware with the Hell’s Gate and it was a matter of time before he tapped out.  The Undertaker retains!

Team Mickie (Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Melina & Gail Kim) vs. Team Michelle (Michelle McCool, Layla, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox & Jillian Hall)

Winners: Team Mickie; Survivors: Mickie James, Melina
Order of elimination: Layla, Gail Kim, Jillian Hall, Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, Michelle McCool

This match up was all over the place.  There were multiple botched or really bad looking spots and it just didn’t stand out for any real good reasons.  Beth Phoenix took out two diva’s via the Glam Slam, but when all was said and done, it was two women WRESTLERS who were standing tall victorious!

WWE Title Match
John Cena (champion) vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels

Winner: John Cena via pin fall.  This match started out crazy.  Right off the bell, Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on Triple H, to the surprise of practically everyone in the arena, including Cena.  The match progressed as one on one for awhile till Trips hit a spine buster on Michaels on the announce table.  Again another one on on match up for awhile between Trips and Cena.  HBK hit Sweet Chin Music on Cena and once again on Trips which actually caused a near fall for Hunter because he fell on top of Cena.  After a little more back and forth, Cena and HBK had chances to win via STF and a Crossface respectively, but it wasn’t to be at that time.   The finish was frantic.  Each guy tried to hit their signature finishing maneuver unsuccessfully until HBK hit another Sweet Chin Music on Trips, followed up by an Attitude Adjustment on Shawn Michaels where Cena dropped him on Hunter.  Cena covered Triple H for the 1-2-3 and retains the title!
