Monday Night RAW – 2/8/10

After last week’s altercation between Bret Hart and Vince McMahon, would there be another showdown on RAW?  Here’s what happened last night:

Video Package:  Look back at last week’s incident and the aftermath involving Batista.

Backstage: The #99 car of tonight’s guest host, Carl Edwards is spinning donuts in the back lot and then drives into the arena, but it’s not Edwards driving, it’s Hornswoggle.

Kelly Kelly then introduces Edwards who comes out of the back with The Bella Twins, and does his trademark back flip off the top rope.

  • Edwards grabs a mic, “I have a friend here in WWE, John Cena…”
  • Interrupted by the WWE Champion, Sheamus.  “I plan on walking into WrestleMania champion and that means I have to win the Elimination Chamber.  As WWE champion, I’m demanding you make me the last participant.  I don’t want you doing favors for Cena.  Listen to me or you won’t make it too Daytona next week.
  • The ECW Champion, Christian‘s music hits.  He walks to the ring and introduces himself to Carl Edwards.  “Last week, Edge came out and said he’s either going to face you or The Undertaker for the title without one mention of me or the ECW title…”  Then proceeds to make some jokes at Sheamus’ expense about not having a tan.
  • Sheamus responds, “The only thing that’s funny is that in two weeks you’re going to be unemployed (Referring to the ECW transforming to WWE NXT).
  • “You’re wrong because in two weeks, every ECW superstar becomes a ‘free agent.’  I started to get the feeling that my peeps on RAW missed me, so I’m challenging you to a match tonight!”
  • Guest Host Edwards calls for a referee, RIGHT NOW!

Christian vs. Sheamus – Non-title Match
WINNER: Sheamus via pin fall after hitting the Razor’s Edge

Backstage: Triple H watches the monitor as Sheamus defeated Christian.  Shawn Michaels enters room, “I know I’ve been distracted, but… I was thinking about it, and there’s a silver lining.  DX has never been together at WrestleMania…”

  • Trips reminds him, “I DID qualify for the Elimination Chamber, and going to WrestleMania together sounds good and all, but I’m going into Mania as the champion!”

Video Package: After RAW went off the air last week, John Cena helps Bret Hart, but gets attacked by Batista.

Backstage: Ted DiBiase is in locker room, approached by Cody Rhodes, “You must be proud of yourself… I had to face John Cena to qualify… who’d you have to face?  Oh, yeah, Mark Henry.  I could’ve beaten him again.”

  • DiBiase responds, “It’s obvious that I’m better than you!”
  • Randy Orton enters the room, “Interesting… you think that you’re better than me…?”
  • DiBiase replies, “We’ll find out at the Chamber then, won’t we?”
  • Orton fires back, “We’ll put Cody’s theory to the test when you face John Cena tonight.”  Then looks at Rhodes, “What are you smiling at?  You got me DQ’d against Sheamus, I know you meant well, but you’ll be facing me tonight!”

Elimination Tag Team Title Match  (Smackdown GM Teddy Long ringside)
Straightedge Society (CM Punk & Luke Gallows with Serena) vs. DX (Shawn Michaels & Triple H) vs. The Miz & Big Show
WINNERS: The Miz & Big Show via roll up pin fall on Shawn Michaels while DX was arguing over a blind tag to become the NEW Unified Tag Team Champions

  • Before the match, CM Punk called out Jared from Subway who was in the crowd to join the SES.  He declined.
  • After the match, DX has words as they leave the ring.

Backstage: Josh Matthews is with the NEW Tag Team Champions.  Show grabs mic, “Tonight, Miz and I did something you and I couldn’t do, Chris Jericho, and that’s beat DX!”

  • Miz chimes in, “We’re going to take over the WWE and we’re going to take all the gold… because we’re MizShow and we’re AWESOME!!!”
  • Show corrects him and says, “I think we should go by Show Miz, you know like show biz…”

Backstage: Shawn Michaels walking down the hallway and grabs Smackdown GM, Teddy Long, “You’ve got to trade me to Smackdown!  You take one guy out of the Chamber and put me in.  I win give Taker his rematch at WrestleMania.

  • “I’d love to have you, but those people earned their spot.”  HBK then puts his hands on Teddy Long… Triple H intervenes.
  • Trips says to Shawn, “Is this how far this obsession has gone?  You’re willing to throw DX away…? Your career away!?!
  • Shawn replies, “My career is over” and then super kicks Teddy Long.

Jillian Hall vs. Gail Kim (Maryse is on commentary)
WINNER: Gail Kim via pin fall after hitting the Arm Bar Chin Breaker in a squash match

  • Maryse grabs a mic, “I’m looking forward to having the match of my life with you (Gail).”  She then says something in French and they shake hands.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame 2010 class is “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase.

Backstage: Guest Host, Carl Edwards is with Jared talking about Subway, and Santino Marella walks in raving about how much he loves Subway, so Jared gives him a gift card.

  • Santino is looking for revenge on Jack Swagger, and Edwards grants him a match on Superstars this week.
  • Kofi Kingston enter room and offers a suggestion to Edwards for next week.  He thinks all of the Elimination Chamber participants should be in singles matches on RAW.
  • Edwards likes the idea, but wonders if he should leave the match making to next week’s host…
  • Video Package: Jerry Springer talks to the camera and will be next week’s guest host.
  • Back to the office, and the audio doesn’t work, but I gather he said something to the extent that I’m going to make the matches for next week.

Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton
WINNER: Cody Rhodes via roll up pin fall after Sheamus climbed in and quickly out of the ring distracting Orton.

  • After match, Sheamus attacked Orton and Rhodes slowly grabbed a chair and protected Randy from any further damage.

Backstage: Josh Matthews is with guest host, Carl Edwards.  He makes the match announcements for next week:

  • Randy Orton vs. Sheamus
  • Ted DiBiase vs. Kofi Kingston
  • John Cena vs. Triple H

Ted DiBiase vs. John Cena
WINNER: Match didn’t take place

  • Cena came out like a house of fire and attacked DiBiase before the bell.  He grabbed a mic, “I don’t know why you did what you did Batista, but I want to fight you!  Come out here and finish the job!”  Batista is nowhere to be found.
  • Cena speculates to the crowd if this was a business decision by Vince McMahon as to why he was attacked last week after RAW went off the air.  “If I’m not going to fight Batista, I’d like to talk to Vince McMahon.”
  • Mr. McMahon walks out with security to the bottom of the ramp.
  • Cena cuts him off before he can speak, “One of two things can happen, we talk like men or you send security in, I mow them down and I’m a lot more angry!”
  • McMahon comes into the ring, “I am the supreme alpha male… yes I admit to compensating Batista.  I screwed Bret Hart again… However, I had nothing to do with Batista attacking you!”
  • Cena then asks, “Why the attack?”  McMahon responds, “You eliminated him from the Rumble, maybe he doesn’t like you!  I don’t like you personally… professionally, I love you!”
  • Cena’s even more pissed, “All you care about is money.  You took a good guy in Dave Batista and paid him off, now all he cares about is cashing checks.  You don’t get it… I do this because I love it, for the moment… I was told by Bret himself, that he wants another moment.  He said he’d like to wrestle another match at WrestleMania and his opponent… VINCE McMAHON!  Here’s your chance!”
  • Vince chuckles to himself, “I really don’t think Bret wants any of this!”  After some agitation from Cena, McMahon replies emphatically, “YES! YES! YES!”
  • Cena leaves.  McMahon shows the video again of him spitting in Bret Hart’s face from last week’s RAW.  Out of nowhere Bret Hart jumped the rail and attacked McMahon from behind.  Security intervenes and McMahon runs for the hills!
  • McMahon makes one last comment as he’s walking away, “You want me at WrestleMania, I’ve changed my mind.  The answer is NO because you deserve to be screwed!”
  • Bret’s pissed and starts destroying equipment including a pyrotechnics box and the announce table.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

In all honesty, I don’t think I’ve been more invested in a story line over the past few years with WWE than I am with this Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon one.  This whole rivalry is so compelling to me being an “OldSkool” Bret Hart fan from the early 90s.  Bret really exemplified what it was to be a professional wrestler and what Vince has done to him over the years was just crap considering how much of a work horse and a team player The Hitman really was.  I love how they keep making McMahon out to be this big time, hot shot, but in the end he winds up punking out like a little bitch!  Well, I think it’s safe to say that at WrestleMania we’ll get to see our showdown, and I’m looking forward to Bret slapping on the Sharpshooter and making McMahon beg for mercy!

Excited to see that The Million Dollar Man is getting inducted into the Hall.  He was another one of those work horse wrestlers.  Unfortunately for him, he never officially earned the World Title, as he bought it from Andre The Giant.  The one great thing when it comes to Ted DiBiase are the stories you got from all the crap he had people do to show that everybody’s got a price.  From having his bodyguard/man servant Virgil wiping dog shit off his shoes to offering a kid money to bounce a basketball a certain number of times and then kicking it right before he reaches the number, DiBiase was the ultimate when it came down to being hated by the fans!  Congrats to him!

It’s all about Show Miz BABY!!!  LOL!  I’m excited to see where this goes when it comes to this partnership.  They’re already dogging Chris Jericho about winning the titles.  I’m wondering if they’re going to go to Smackdown and gloat this Friday…?  Probably!

Have we seen the last of DX?  Will Shawn Michaels be fired?  Sounds like this is the end… Tune in next week.  Same bat time.  Same bat channel.  (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!)
