Every now and then, WWE releases a bunch of wrestlers. It’s usually the low card guys who fly under the radar and are rarely missed. In June this year, a crop of them were released, including a man who at one point was handed the “Chosen One” moniker by Vince McMahon himself. That man was Drew McIntyre.

After learning his trade on the British wrestling circuit, he was signed by the WWE after impressing during tryouts at British TV tapings.

After spending time in various developmental territories, he was brought up to the main roster and given the title of “Chosen One” by the boss himself. Putting in good performances across the company, including a stint in NXT, it was in the last couple of years that he came to the forefront.

As part of Three Man Band (3MB), alongside Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal, the group was present on most of the company’s main shows as well as PPV’s.

While seemingly gaining some momentum, it came as a shock to many to see him released from his contract on June 12th this year.

With a surprise release, you could have expected him to rest on his laurels.

Many could have expected him to quickly appear in other companies across the USA, but McIntyre did something that shocked many fans across the world.

Having cut his teeth in the Glasgow (Scotland) based Insane Championship Wrestling, you may have expected him to be above that company now, having spent the last few years at the biggest table of them all in the WWE.

But McIntyre, reverting back to his real name of Drew Galloway, shocked the wrestling world. He not only returned to the place he once called home, but also put himself firmly back in the limelight right off the bat.

He came to the aid of longtime friend Jack Jester, before turning on him and leaving him laying. The Scottish native would then cut some of the best promos that we have seen from him. Galloway proved his worth to the company straight away.

An intriguing feud lays in the future for the two. However, much is expected from Galloway, as it would seem he’s set to carry the company into the coming months and into the worldwide gaze.

Also defeating Chris Hero to take the Evolve Championship would appear to make many people want a piece of the 29 year old.

But what does his long-term future hold?

Was his release something of a shot in the arm for him?

It has seen him go back to his roots to produce some of his best work so far. He’s undoubtedly set to return to WWE one day from all of this.

I see this release as more of “go away and show us what you can do” from Vince McMahon, than a goodbye forever. So far he’s certainly doing that!
