Becky Lynch Should Be First WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion

With Backlash approaching WWE needs to give ‘The Lass Kicker’, Becky Lynch her first run as Women’s Champion at the event.

Recently on Smackdown Live, Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan finally introduced the new Women’s Championship for the brand. To crown a new champion, McMahon and Bryan announced a six-pack challenge to determine the first champion. This will feature Becky Lynch, Carmella, Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Nikki Bella & Natalya. With WWE looking to make an impact with this new title, the company needs to make The Irish Lass Kicker the first Smackdown Women’s Champion.

For the last year, Becky has shown that she is one of the all around best female talents on the roster. From her ring work and vastly improved microphone work, Lynch has shown that she is worthy of being the first champion.

WWE has also shown faith in Becky, as she was the first female selected to the Blue Brand during the draft. With Sasha, Charlotte and now Bayley all on the RAW roster, WWE needed a strong female to carry Smackdown. With that in mind, they put their faith in Becky to carry the brand.

In the short time the brands have been split, Becky has helped make Smackdown the stronger women’s division. Smackdown has a great nucleus of veterans and brand new talent from NXT. With RAW suffering with injuries and a major dropoff from their big three (Charlotte, Bayley & Sasha), they lack and all around strong division.

With Becky at the forefront, though, Smackdown has been able to produce a very fun and entertaining Women’s division so far. Lynch has shown that she can help put over and work with new talent. In recent weeks, she has been able to help put over and develop Alexa Bliss.

With her ability to make any match and program watchable, Becky should be awarded as the first Women’s Champion on Smackdown Live. At the moment, none of the girls, besides Becky, seem ready to have a run with the belt.

The only other name that could possibly be disused is Nikki Bella. The longest reigning Divas Champion made her shocking return at Summerslam, and could make for feel-good story if she wins.

However, after coming back from a major injury WWE, should stay away from Bella being in the title picture for the moment. Coming back from an injury is hard enough, but adding more pressure such as giving her a title could be a bit too taxing.

Nikki has not even been back for a month yet, giving her a title might be too much for her to handle. WWE should precede with caution when it comes to Nikki, putting too much pressure on her could cause her to burn out quickly.

Keeping Bella in a non-title feud with Carmela for the next month or two is the best thing for the former. Becky Lynch, on the other hand, should be the one getting the belt at Backlash.

It would also be a great feeling moment in WWE as Lynch has yet to win a championship in the company. Out of the Four Horsewomen, Becky is the only one not to win a championship in WWE as Charlotte, Bayley and Sasha have all won gold either in NXT or on the main roster.

Lynch winning would finally end the curse she has on not winning gold, and would staple her as one of the top women in WWE. She could then enter a feud with Bliss with the championship on the line.

Bliss has also never won gold in WWE, and the duo could really start an entertaining feud together. Despite being relatively new to the ring, Bliss has shown upside, and her and Becky could put on some fantastic matches.

Becky could also enter programs with the likes of Eva Marie, Natalya, and Carmella. She could then enter a high profile feud with Nikki Bella heading into WrestleMania 33. With Bella and Lynch being arguably the most popular females on Smackdown, their rivalry should be held until next year during WrestleMania season.

Any way you look at it, the best decision Smackdown can do is placing the Women’s Championship on the Irish Lass Kicker, Becky Lynch at Backlash. Her ring presence and her ability to help develop girls should be rewarded with making her the first Women’s Champion on Smackdown Live.
