Cesaro Shouldn’t Win Best-of-Seven Series vs. Sheamus

Cesaro is currently down by 3-2 in the best of seven series against Sheamus, and should lose the final match.

Cesaro remains as the most under-utilized wrestler on the whole Raw roster despite being the most talented of the lot. He continues to produce stellar matches and still finds himself in mid-card purgatory. The Swiss Superman and Sheamus are booked to fight each other in  a best of seven series. The pairing has produced a different match every time they stepped into the ring. The fans seem to be deeply invested in the story at this point.

The first three bouts saw Sheamus targeting Cesaro’s shoulder and back. Sheamus picked up the win in all three matches leading 3-0 in the series. Cesaro also picked up a storyline injury which was well executed in match three. Fans saw a fighting babyface who never gave up despite a bad back. Even in his third consecutive loss to Sheamus, Cesaro managed to come out looking like a true champion. The Swiss Superman finally scored his first victory in the fourth match that took place in London. He followed it up with another victory on Monday’s Raw.

The storyline back injury suddenly gives the fans a reason to cheer for Cesaro. All of a sudden, he is fighting against all the odds, being 3-0 down with a bad back. This was something that the character of Cesaro always lacked – a reason for the fans to invest in his journey. Cesaro is a mega star in the making and now, finally fans have a reason to follow him as he battles to reach the top. If executed properly, this best-of-seven series could be Cesaro’s big break.

Why Cesaro Should Lose?

Cesaro should go on to tie the series at 3-3, setting the stage for an epic final at Clash of Champions. But it should be Sheamus who wins the final match where Cesaro’s back eventually gives up on him. The loss should be carefully executed in such a way that the former ROH star should not lose his momentum. A combination of bad luck, an ill-timed injury, and underhand heel tactics should eventually cost him the match.

More from WWE

By the time COC comes our way, Cesaro would already be viewed as a real fighter and a champion by the fans. He came back from 3-0 down with an injury and now has a shot at winning the series. On the other hand, we have Sheamus who built a ton of momentum in the first three matches. Losing four matches consecutively to the Swiss Superman will ruin that. By winning the series, The Celtic Warrior will be able to come out as a genuine heel who should be feared by all.

With an ending like this, WWE creative has the opportunity to build to potential stars. On one hand, we have Cesaro who battled through pain against all odds to fall short at the last hurdle. He can be portrayed as the lovable and respected baby face. On the other hand, we have Sheamus who is a ruthless genuine heel that does whatever it takes to win the match. Both superstars can come out of the series with ample momentum to head in new directions.

What is Next for Cesaro and Sheamus?

If Stephanie McMahon is indeed in the middle of a rumored face turn, she can perhaps be impressed with Cesaro’s determination and hand him a future title shot. An enraged Sheamus can perhaps rebuke her decision and eventually align himself with Triple H. Cesaro will thrive as a babyface alongside Stephanie and Foley while sharing the spotlight with them. Sheamus will flourish as Triple H’s ruthless henchman as he gets all the dirty work done.

Both these performers are on the verge of creating something extraordinary if creative decides to run with it. They have two potential stars on their hand who can eventually catapult Raw to new heights. The ideal booking scenario should have both of them coming out of this feud as genuine stars. For that, Sheamus has to win and Cesaro has to shine in their final bout.
