When bloggers and smarks have nothing else to discuss, the talk inevitably turns to which superstars should be on the “Mount Rushmore” of WWE.

You and your friends have probably had arguments over which WWE legends should be immortalized in stone for all time and you inevitably say the wrong names because you base your decision on emotion rather than fact. It’s the same reason why Total Bellas is still a television show and why so few people can actually name the presidents on Mount Rushmore, much less why they were chosen.

So if such a monument to the WWE existed, whose faces should be chosen? In the interest of brevity, I am only including superstars that came into prominence after the creation of Titan Sports, Inc. This means men like “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers and Bruno Sammartino were indeed trailblazers for the business but won’t be found here. They deserve a monument all to themselves. In almost every instance of this discussion, the two names chosen are The Rock and Stone Cold. Again, based on emotion and again, wrong. You won’t find either of these men listed here and not only will I explain why but you’ll agree with me.

Before we begin, you need to know a little about the actual Mount Rushmore. It is one of our country’s most recognizeable monuments and resides in the Black Hills of Keystone, South Dakota. The granite batholith is adorned with 60 foot-tall faces of former U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. After sculptor Gutzon Borglum began work in 1927, he and his crew spent the next 14 years carving the masterpiece that would come to represent the first 150 years of our nation’s history.

If Borglum was able to select four of our greatest presidents to be immortalized in such a way, surely we can do the same with a company that is significantly younger than the United States but also has its share of immortals. How? We use the same criteria Borglum did, regardless of where it takes us. You may not agree with my choices, but the reasoning cannot be denied. Remember, we are using our heads and not our hearts. Let’s begin.
