WWE Rumors: Elias Samson Receiving Main Roster Call-Up Soon

Despite the wave of call-ups on Raw and SmackDown, Elias Samson is still expected to be moved up.

Elias Samson’s time in WWE NXT looks to be over. He lost a Loser Leaves NXT match to Kassius Ohno before TakeOver: Orlando, seemingly ending his run with the brand. However, in a pre-show match before the live special (it aired on Wednesday’s WWE NXT), Samson appeared as El Vagabundo — a “masked” luchador who carried a guitar and tried singing.

Well, Vagabundo may indeed be permanently off developmental. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required but recommended), he’s expected to be called up to Raw or SmackDown “next week.”

The timing of Samson’s potential call-up comes with the “Superstar Shake-Up” happening on Monday’s Raw and Tuesday’s SmackDown Live. Details have been limited from WWE, but trades, deals and “other moves that they feel fit” seem to be the nature of this. If the Drifter is being moved to the main roster, then he fits into the “other moves.”

Samson will be able to find a place on Raw or SmackDown’s mid-card. He’s not a main event talent, but has the opportunity to get a United States or Intercontinental Championship run in during his career. The character work he’s done should lead to this, if the crowd hates his singing as much as the Full Sail University Faithful did.

This possible debut comes after Shinsuke Nakamura, the Revival and Tye Dillinger moved to the main roster. Nakamura’s came on SmackDown, where he interrupted a segment of the Miz and Maryse mocking John Cena and Nikki Bella. Dillinger also appeared on the Blue Brand, defeating Curt Hawkins in an open challenge. The Revival answered New Day’s challenge on Raw and defeated them.
