Smackdown – 11/6/09
Here’s the review of Smackdown for 11/6/09:
The show starts off with the ominous entrance of the World Heavyweight Champion, The Undertaker. He gives the crowd a history lesson on his own personal legend. Says that Big Show won the opportunity to be terminated by the dead man. He also says that Chris Jericho‘s fate, health, and his soul will be his!
- Jericho’s music hits as he walks down the ramp. He says that this is what the WWE Universe has been waiting for, the Best in the World face to face with The Phenom. Also says that for the past 20 years that The Undertaker has brainwashed the fans, and that he’s not a “dead man” he’s just a man, and he’s not intimidated by him.
- The Undertaker throttles Jericho, and a mini skirmish ends as quickly as it began with Taker standing tall in the ring.
Video Package: Rey Mysterio and Batista situation.
Hart Dynasty and Dolph Ziggler defeat Cryme Tyme and John Morrison via pin fall after Ziggler hit the Zig Zag on Shad Gaspard.
Josh Matthews has an intimate interview with Rey Mysterio.
- Rey says that he’s a little upset that one of his “family members” walked out on him over something so small.
- Rey says directly to Batista “whatever has gotten into you, I’m going to get it out…and I’m going to show you a side of me, you NEVER knew existed!”
Beth Phoenix defeats Brittany Carter (jobber) via pin fall after hitting the Glam Slam.
Drew McIntyre attacks Jimmy Wang Yang before their match even starts, and begins to walk up the aisle. Yang gets back in the ring, and the referee rings the bell for the match to begin. In about a minute, McIntyre defeats Yang via pin fall after hitting a Double Underhook DDT.
Josh Matthews catches up with Batista, and basically asks him why he did it? Batista’s responds “he’s not here to make friends, but to become the World Heavyweight Champion!”
Rey Mysterio defeats Mike Knox via pin fall after hitting the 619/splash combo.
R-Truth defeats CM Punk via pin fall. During the match, Punk started to bully referee, Scott Armstrong telling him to count faster, and gets rolled up by R-Truth and Armstrong counted Punk’s shoulders to the mat with a fast count.
Backstage: Mickie James gets stopped by Michelle McCool and Layla. They tell Mickie to pack her stuff up and just leave. Mickie says that her team will defeat McCool’s team at Survivor Series then take back the Women’s Championship.
Backstage: Josh Matthews interviews Matt Hardy. Matt says that last week he was just trying to reason and help Batista, but all it did was get him attacked from behind. He’s not here to talk to Batista tonight. He’s ready to fight!
Main Event
Matt Hardy defeats Batista via DQ after Batista hit Hardy with a monitor from the broadcasting table. After the match Batista throws him into the steps, and back into the ring to set up for a Batista Bomb, but then doesn’t execute it… almost as if because the fans were cheering for it, he didn’t want to give it to them.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
Two weeks in a row that Beth Phoenix faces a lady jobber… Do we really need reinforcement that Beth Phoenix is that dominant?
We have a Jimmy Wang Yang sighting!!! That guy always makes me chuckle, an Asian-Redneck. You ever notice that eventually any Japanese wrestler under 200 lbs ends up being a jobber in WWE? Yoshi Tatsu better beware!
It always frightens me to see a man the size of Mike Knox hit a flying cross body on someone. It’s even more frightening when his opponent is as small as Rey Mysterio. I swear to God that I thought Mysterio was going to be broken in half when Knox hit that move outside the ring!
I couldn’t help but laugh at the perfect timing of Punk/Armstrong in the match between Punk and R-Truth. Props to the creative team, or whoever was responsible, for that idea. Too funny!
I’m liking the very sinister side of Batista. It’s been such a long time since he’s been a heel that it’s very refreshing to have this change. He was almost too hokey as a baby face, like a big teddy bear. Now I think this will be a better route for Batista to go, especially if this is going to be his last run.
