ECW on Syfy – 12/22/09
The ECW Homecoming tournament continued last night! Who advanced? That’s what I’m here to tell you about!
Former ECW Champion Jack Swagger comes out to address the crowd. “Finally this show is worth watching again… Now a lot of things have changed since I left this place, but a lot of things have stayed the same like Christian, he’s a chump, and Tommy Dreamer is still fat!”
Video Package: Jack Swagger highlight video plays.
Zack Ryder with Rosa Mendez vs. Tommy Dreamer
WINNER: Zack Ryder via pin fall after hitting The Zack Attack.
Tony Atlas introduces us to the Abraham Washington Show with our host Abraham Washington.
- Says that he supports Tiger Woods, saying “Us pimps gotta stick together!”
- Introduces ECW’s newest tag team, Trent Barreta & Caylen Croft. They say, “We’re taking it to the next level! You can’t compare N64 to XBox 360.”
- Tony Atlas says that he was once a Tag Team Champion, and they cut him off and say, “You’re old and no one cares!”
Backstage: Tiffany is messing with her phone and Jack Swagger approaches her. Swagger suggests that she missed him being there and that he was only brought in to be the next ECW Champion.
- The Hurricane flies in to the room. Swagger asks him about his super powers. The Hurricane says, “I can do anything… except maybe fix that speech impediment, citizen Swagger!”
Video Package: John Cena talking to the soldiers at the Tribute to the Troops show.

ECW Homecoming Qualifying Match
Jack Swagger vs. Yoshi Tatsu
WINNER: Yoshi Tatsu via pin fall catching Swagger with a kick flush to the skull.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
My thought process is what does Zack Ryder get from beating Tommy Dreamer? Nothing really. Dreamer’s a glorified jobber now and Ryder’s a legitimate player in the ECW Title picture. It’s almost as if they need someone to put Tommy out of his misery like Ryder eluded to last week. Could Dreamer be retiring soon?
I’m hoping that this isn’t going to be a regular thing with Barreta & Croft dissing the veterans. It’s something that’s been done multiple times over, and frankly I’m sick of people dogging the tradition of professional wrestling. Veterans, especially Hall of Famers, need to be off limits when it comes to cracking jokes. The writers should know better. I can understand a heel saying I’m better than they will ever be to get heat, but to simply say you’re old and no one cares is just BS to me! This business is based on respect and that line was tasteless.
I’m not shocked that Vance Archer went over Goldust. Archer is being pegged as a beast, and while Goldust is a cagey veteran, they cannot kill that momentum that Archer has gained. I can see him losing his first match up in the Finals of the ECW Homecoming.
I AM shocked that Yoshi Tatsu pulled out the upset of Jack Swagger. I figured we’d get our hopes up for Yoshi to get the victory, but out of nowhere Swagger would pull out the win. I’m excited that Tatsu won, but for story purposes, I think Swagger might’ve been a better choice for the final match of the ECW Homecoming.
