TNA Genesis PPV Preview & Predictions

facebooktwitterreddit

Tonight, TNA presents their first PPV of 2010 appropriately named Genesis.  Tonight is the rebirth of TNA.  Their first PPV under the watchful eyes of Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff.  Will it be successful?  That depends on what their definition of success is.  For me, a successful PPV would be exactly what TNA has done in the recent few PPVs. Put on great, storytelling matches that captivate the fans and mean something!  As for the card and my predictions, this is going to be a little difficult to pick because since Hogan’s return, there’s some stories that haven’t really been cultivated as well as they should have been.  I must pick, so here goes:

TNA X-Division Title Match
Amazing Red vs. Mystery Opponent
SHOULD: Amazing Red WILL: Mystery Opponent

When it comes down to a match with a mystery opponent, I can’t help but think that they’re going to have the mystery opponent go over most of the time.  Personally, I think it would be a mistake for TNA to have some new guy come in and just upset Red, but I seriously think they will, especially if it turns out to be Jeff Hardy.

Sean Morley vs. Daniels
SHOULD: Daniels WILL: Daniels

This one is sort of a trap match in my opinion to pick.  My conspiracy theory brain thinks that because Sean Morley is friends with Hogan he might go over, but I can’t help but believe that this match could put Daniels back in the upper echelon and turn him into their super heel.

TNA Knockout’s Title Match – 2 out of 3 falls
Tara vs. ODB (Champion)
SHOULD: Tara WILL: Tara

This match speaks volumes about what TNA thinks about women’s wrestling.  I don’t think that WWE would ever allow their women to have a match up that was 2 out of 3 falls.  The TNA women’s product is fantastic and these two will showcase it.  I have this feeling that Tara’s going to take the belt back and reclaim the title as best women’s wrestler in the world!

Abyss vs. Bobby Lashley
SHOULD: Abyss WILL: Lashley

Abyss needs a win very badly, but I don’t believe in the TNA booking for this one.  Lashley and Krystal are hell bent on destroying everyone that gets in their way until TNA gives them their outright release so Lashley can focus on his MMA career.

TNA Tag Team Title Match
The British Invasion (Champions) vs. Matt Morgan & Hernandez
SHOULD: British Invasion WILL: Morgan/Hernandez

This is one of the match ups that has gotten no real hype since Hogan made his debut.  The rivalry has gone by the wayside except for one random run in from Big Rob.  I really think that because TNA’s going to focus on “new stars” that Morgan and Hernandez will win the belts tonight.  I bet Big Rob is the cause for the Brits to lose the match again!

D’Angelo Dinero vs. Desmond Wolfe
SHOULD: Wolfe WILL: Wolfe

I believe that Wolfe will win this match up, but I have a feeling that it’s not going to be something conventional.  I doubt that this rivalry will end tonight though.  This rivalry has potential for being something great.  Dinero and Wolfe are both good in the ring and great on the microphone.  I anticipate a lot of smack talk during this match up.

Beer Money Inc. vs. Scott Hall & Kevin Nash
SHOULD: Hall/Nash WILL: Hall/Nash

I hate to predict this, but in the grand scheme of story lines, I really think Hall and Nash should win this match up, but I think it should be done by less than honorable means.  This match up will be the test to see if they’re going to allow The Band to run things like before or if Hogan will step up and tell them to take a hike!  If in the coming weeks Hogan starts talking down to those guys for how they’re doing things, we may actually have an honest, un-ego driven Hulk Hogan on our hands.  It’s a long shot, but my fingers are crossed.

TNA World Title Match
Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles (Champion)
SHOULD: Styles WILL: Styles

This could end up being a match of the year candidate. Styles and Angle are very evenly matched, and I think this is going to be a phenominal match up, no pun intended.  It will be a back and forth match up with Styles somehow edging out the Olympic gold medalist.  Going into the next few months, I can’t help but think that there might be a coalition between Styles and Angle based on respect to go against Hogan’s goons… just a thought.

There is also supposed to be a big signing revealed at the PPV and I’m led to believe that it’s Ken Anderson aka Mr. Kennedy.  Anderson was on the Hulkamania Tour and is friends with Hogan, but more importantly is the fact that he’s not over the age of 40.  He’s got the potential to be a top dog in TNA and Hogan himself said in an interview that “this guy can come right in and challenge for the TNA title.”  We’ll see if it’s really him or if it’s a total swerve and it turns out to be someone like Rob Van Dam.

One key question, will Jeff Jarrett & Mick Foley make an appearance and cause chaos?

The Genesis PPV starts at 5pm pacific time.  I’ll be back tomorrow morning with results and reactions to the outcomes!  Till then…
