Rumors, News & Reactions
So the status of TNA has been on my brain as of the last few days. I’ve heard and read many news reports and people’s thoughts this week, and my head is just swimming with joy, with hate, with fear. Almost every emotion goes through me when I read something about the company I once really enjoyed watching.
There’s talk that The Honky Tonk Man refused to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame because he had “prior engagements.” It came out later that those prior engagements are a possible signing with TNA. Okay, WTF?!? Yes, he’s one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all time. Yes, he’s a great entertainer. Does anyone want to see him in TNA? NO!!! I see Honky 2-3 times a year at my local promotion, and he’s good friends with the promoter. While he does get in the ring when he comes to town, most of the time his matches are based around him getting the crowd to back him, singing and dancing around the ring, and rest holds. I really don’t need to see him any more often than I already do.
There was a title change at a TNA house show in the UK… no it’s not a “major” title. Do you remember who the TNA Global Champion is? Has anyone reading this blog ever remember me even talking about the Global Championship? It’s probably because it’s NEVER defended on U.S. soil. The former champion, Eric Young, lost the belt to Big Rob of the British Invasion. Big whoop!!! It’s also being reported that the next TNA LIVE Impact episode on a Monday night will be on March 1st. Now, all things considered, even though I hate the way TNA is going right now, TNA’s ratings have been better than their average. This could be a good thing for the business, but in all honesty, I can’t help to think again that this is a mistake for right now. TNA is now struggling to find a NEW identity and I don’t know if they’ll be able to find it before March 1st in order to compete with WWE on a weekly basis if that’s what TNA is intending. Spike TV has already confirmed things for this show, but nothing has officially come out saying that the Monday Night Wars will be a weekly occurrence. I’m guessing that we’ll find out in the coming up weeks leading up to the LIVE Impact. If they were smart, they’d wait to make that announcement on the show.
Sid Vicious has a petition on his website as a way to get TNA to sign him… ummm… yeah… I hope I have to NEVER speak of this again. Please Dixie Carter do not sign that dumbass! Need I remind you of this moment:
There’s also word going around that Hulk Hogan wouldn’t mind the Macho Man Randy Savage in TNA if he “got in shape and colored that Santa Claus beard.” WOW! Think about all of the old guys that have already debuted in TNA, and Vicious and Savage, and what do you get??? I bet you’re screaming at the monitor right now… If you said WCW, YOU’RE CORRECT!!! God help TNA!
