TNA Against All Odds – Preview

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, I have to say Happy Valentine’s/Single’s Awareness Day to everyone who happens to be reading this post.  This is quite an interesting choice of day to be having a PPV, but TNA has never really gone the conventional route with their product, so it almost fits them.  Anyways, tonight is the Against All Odds PPV and there is scheduled to be nine matches on the card.  Let’s not waste anymore time, and get into the preview and predictions:

Eight Card Stud Tournament
Opening Round Match Ups:

Desmond Wolfe vs. “Pope” D’Angelo Dinero
SHOULD: Wolfe WILL: Pope

  • These two have been two of the rising stars in TNA.  Wolfe came in and got over big time with the crowd.  The Pope took a little longer to get over, but has been on a roll as of late, including an upset victory in a non-title match against AJ Styles.  Personally, I’m a Desmond Wolfe fan.  I think he has more potential in the ring and on the mic.  However, I just have this feeling like they’re going to push Pope through, just a hunch.

Hernandez vs. Matt Morgan
SHOULD:  Morgan  WILL:  Morgan

  • The tag team champions enter the ring tonight, not as partners, but as adversaries.  They have to look across the ring and know that their buddy is standing in their way of getting a #1 contender spot for the TNA World Title.  I think that TNA finds Morgan to have more upside because of his size and ability.  He’s getting better on the mic and has connected more with the crowd because he’s found a personality in the ring.

Brackets for the Eight Card Stud Tournament

Mr. Anderson vs. Kurt Angle
SHOULD:  Anderson WILL:  Angle

  • Last week, Angle and Anderson composed a very dysfunctional tag team, and really Anderson was the one who came out with his stock really rising.  This match is a slippery slope because for the sake of things Anderson should win.  He’s the hot shot new talent they just brought in, but Kurt’s story line is the main thing going on the show.  I can’t help but think that puts Angle at a better chance to win the match.  The only way I can see this going any other way would be to go down a very, very bad road that involves Scott Hall, Six Pac & Hulk Hogan, and I really don’t want that to happen.

Abyss vs. Mick Foley
SHOULD:  Foley  WILL:  Foley

  • After all the drama with Eric Bischoff over the past month, Mick Foley finally decided to get on board with the new regime.  However, now he has to wrestle one of his best friends, Abyss.  At least Foley knows for sure that Abyss still has a job, right?  I see Foley winning this match and advancing to the next round, but I also have a strange feeling like maybe Bischoff will look at this match next week and start spouting off that Abyss losing to Foley makes him dead weight on the roster.  Bischoff threatening to fire someone… wow, there’s a concept!

Second Round Match Ups (Based upon the WILL winners):

“Pope” D’Angelo Dinero vs. Matt Morgan
SHOULD:  Morgan  WILL:  Morgan

  • Now even though I picked Morgan to get into this round, I’m a bigger fan of the Pope.  I think that after the first round, Pope’s going to be pretty messed up, more than likely with a knee injury.  Morgan will be able to take advantage and just plain and simply over power Dinero.  Pope will NOT be pimpin’ tonight after this match, he’ll be limpin’ to the medic table.

Mick Foley vs. Kurt Angle
SHOULD:  Angle  WILL:  Angle

  • Now if you noticed before, I didn’t really think Angle should’ve won the opening contest, but since he happens to be sitting here in this spot against Mick Foley, I’ll take Kurt Angle any day of the week.  Foley may have the anger for Bischoff going for him right now, but Kurt has the drive to regain what was stolen from him, the TNA World Title!

Final Round Match Up (Based upon the WILL winners):

Matt Morgan vs. Kurt Angle
SHOULD: Morgan  WILL:  Angle

  • I really don’t want to see Kurt Angle win this tournament, but I have this feeling that he will.  This match up is one that we’ve somewhat been waiting for.  After all the drama back in the Main Event Mafia days when Angle was trying to recruit the big 7-footer to the group, we get to see if Matt Morgan really deserves to be on the big stage with the biggest name in the business.  IF, there’s a screw job ending and Morgan wins, I wouldn’t hate it, but there’s more story line to run with when Angle wins.

Grudge Match
Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) vs. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Saggs)
SHOULD:  Team 3D  WILL: Team 3D

  • When it comes down to this match, all I can hope for is that it’s short and sweet.  Team 3D should come in and potato the hell out of these old, broken down pieces of crap, who don’t deserve to be on PPV anymore, and send them back to the retirement home!

TNA World Title Match
Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles with Ric Flair (Champion)
SHOULD: Styles  WILL: Styles

  • I like Samoa Joe’s fire when it comes to his characters.  He always comes out ready to snap someone’s head off… sort of reminds me of Kurt Angle in that regard.  However, basing things just on that notion doesn’t give him the TNA Championship.  I think because the angle to AJ’s character is so new that they almost have to keep the belt on him for a little while longer to see where they can go with it.  Especially if Kurt Angle wins the tournament… that means he’d get his rematch with “the phenomenal one!”

Show starts tonight at 5 pm if you’re on the West Coast like me.  I’ll have the results tomorrow for you!  Enjoy the day everyone!
