TNA Impact! – 2/25/10

Last night on Impact, there was a TON of story line to cover!  So let’s get into what happened:

Backstage: Abyss is showing off the hall of fame ring that Hulk Hogan gave to him last week and telling the guys in the back the story… “I thought last week was going to be the worst day ever, but it ended up being the greatest day in the history of my life!”

Video Package:  All the events that have taken place since Against All Odds involving Abyss and Eric Bischoff.

AJ Styles & Ric Flair come to the ring.

• Video Package: Styles/Flair destroying the leg of D’Angelo Dinero with a chair last week.
• AJ takes mic, “Last week, Pope, you came out here to my home… and tried to make it your temple… you want to be the golden boy.  Well it’s not gonna happen!  I’m the man… the way it looks you’re not going to be walking for a long time!”
• Flair then chimes in, “Last week, Hogan gave his hall of fame ring to the Abyss..?  Are you kidding me?  To take this and give it to him… I’m calling the Abyss out…
• Abyss come out to the ring with a new theme song, it’s his mashed up with Hogan’s old WCW theme (American Made).  Flair says to him, “You being in the hall of tame, that’s a disgrace.  You make us all look bad!  I worked my whole life to get in the hall of fame!  You make me sick!  You’re a clown!”
• Abyss says, “I’d be more than happy to remove AJ’s boots and stick them up your ass!”
• Styles speaks up, “Don’t you ever speak again you pathetic piece of crap… you’re a disgrace!  Why don’t you do everyone a favor and take that ring off.
• Abyss is getting irritated points at AJ (like Hogan used to say – YOU!!!).  At that moment Hogan comes to the ring.  “Just because you walk around kissing Flair’s butt gives you a good name?  When the history book is written do you want it to say ‘the weakest champion of all time AJ Styles?'”
• Flair cuts him off, “I came to TNA because everything you touch turns to gold, but you’re never going to tell the Nature Boy what to do!  What are you doing giving him a hall of fame ring?!?”  Flair and Styles begin to take off their jackets.
• Hogan looks at Abyss and they get prepared for a fight, but Flair and Styles bail out.  Flair says, “You’ve bought yourself some time!  Before the night is over, that ring will be on his (AJ’s) finger!”

No-DQ Tables Match
The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) with Jimmy Hart vs. Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon)
WINNERS: Team 3D after hitting Sags with the 3D through a table

• Mid match, Jesse Neal came to the ring and stole Jimmy Hart’s crash helmet, hit Knobbs and threw it into the ring to Devon who hit Sags.  Allowed them to get set up for the win.

Backstage: Mick Foley in Eric Bischoff’s office, “It was all a set up.  You wanted me out of the building so that you could take Abyss’ mask off and embarrass him!”

• Bischoff says, “Let’s focus on the end result.  Abyss has Hulkamania in the palm of his hand.”
• Foley not entirely convinced, “I think you were trying to get me out of the building, under the guise of making me an asset!”
• Bischoff replies, “Let it go.  Abyss and JB (Jeremy Borash) are fine!  You have to hold up your end of the bargain…”
• Foley walks out thinking about going to get the suit Bischoff bought for him.

ODB vs. Daffney
WINNER: ODB via DQ after Daffney snapped and hit her with a piece of the steel steps and mop

• After the match, Dr. Stevie had to pull her off of ODB.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with Matt Morgan & Hernandez and is trying to stir up some controversy over the way Morgan beat his partner one-on-one at Against All Odds.  Both guys say they’re ready to take on all comers and they’re on the same page!

Backstage: Scott Hall & Sean Waltman are rummaging through the garbage trying to look for weapons.

Beer Money Inc. come to the ring.  Robert Roode takes the mic, “It was almost two years ago when we formed.  On that day we made a promise that every time we stepped in this ring we’d be the best we could be…”

• James Storm steps forward, “We’re out here stating facts… we’ve been here since day one when the veterans didn’t want any part of this company… the numbers don’t lie!  For some reason new TNA management wants to put Beer Money on the sidelines… if TNA wants to take thatnext step, it needs some Beer Money.
• Interrupted by Hernandez  who offers them to go to Hulk Hogan’s office and name them the #1 Contenders for the Tag Team Titles.  Beer Money gladly accepts!

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with Eric Young & Kevin Nash.  Nash speaks first, “JB it was clear last week… we just want to bust them up and crack some skulls!”

• EY adds, “We’re going to bust them up real good and send them packing!”

Backstage: Jeff Jarrett looking for Bischoff busts into his office.  “Is that all you got/  Just because I didn’t play by your rules you use six thugs..?”

• Bischoff apologizes…  “This has been tough on both of us… I know I’ve been wrong… you did the right thing and I respect that.  Tonight, meet me in the ring.  Let me give you the opportunity you deserve.
• Jarrett walks away not wanting to trust Bischoff.

Video Package: The budding rivalry between Eric Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett.

Bischoff comes to the ring.  “I pride myself on being man enough to admit my mistakes… I think I was wrong about Jeff Jarrett.”

• Jeff Jarret comes to ring, has his music and pyro back.
• Bischoff looks at him, “Jeff, I know this has been tough… I asked you to do something that was probably the wrong thing… you did the right thing.  The problem is, you didn’t do the right thin by me… I’m going to give you one more shot to do the right thing.”  Bischoff hands him a spatula and hair net.  Tells Jarrett to get back to catering and start flipping burgers.

Backstage: Matt Morgan grabs Hernandez a little upset that he was never consulted about him giving Beer Money a shot at the titles.  They work out that they need to communicate better.

X-Division #1 Contender Match
Brian Kendrick vs. Kazarian
WINNER: Kazarian via pin fall after hitting the Flux Capacitor

Backstage: JB is with Abyss.  “Flair and Styles or anyone else who wants this ring… come on, bring whatever you want to try to get this ring off my finger.  Hulk saw something in me… now I’m not the lord, but I’m THE MONSTER of the rings!” (Cackles!)

Video Package: History of the TNA Legends title evolving into the TNA Global title.

Backstage: Christy Hemme is with Mr. Anderson.  “Who’s the guy who has been unstoppable in TNA?  Who’s the guy people are referring to as the one?  Tonight I get my 1st taste of TNA Gold… That man is MISSTTTER Anderson… Anderson!”

Backstage: TNA Global Champion, Big Rob Terry is warming up when he’s approached by Brutus Magnus.  “Word of warning champ… you don’t bite the hand that feeds you…”

WINNER: Big Rob Terry via pin fall after hitting a running power slam

• Before match, Anderson does his talking points on the ramp.  Kurt Angle appears behind him and cracks him with a chair.  Angle then has Terry carry him to the ring to start the match.

Backstage: Jeff Jarrett flipping burgers.

Video Package: History of The Band in TNA and all the drama that follows them.

Backstage: Eric Young and Kevin Nash meet Sean Waltman and Scott Hall in the parking lot for a fight.  Hall takes out Nash with a pipe and the double team begins on EY… When all is said and done, The Band tag EY’s back in spray paint, “4 Life!”

Backstage: Eric Bischoff on the phone with someone and disses their idea about celebrity guest hosts.  Hangs up phone and Mick Foley enters with his new suit on.  It has a mustard stain on it already because he saw Jeff Jarrett flipping burgers and did a spit take (claimed).

• Bischoff is happy, but wants to take it to the next level.  He wants Foley to take some etiquette classes.
• Foley leaves okay with it.  Bischoff has a good laugh when the door closes.

Desmond Wolfe with Chelsea vs. Abyss
WINNER: Abyss via pin fall after hitting the Black Hole Slam

• After the match, Ric Flair and AJ Styles try to attack Abyss.  Abyss holds his own until Wolfe gets back up and hits him with a chair.  Wolfe has a set of hand cuffs and attaches Abyss to the ropes.
• Hogan comes out from the back and holds his own, but gets the tar beat out of him.  Even gets cut open after a belt shot from Styles.
• Abyss so pissed off, breaks the hand cuffs and everyone bails!
• Hogan takes the mic, “Guess what Flair?  On March 8th when we go live, you’re coming out of retirement because I’m booking you in a match.  AJ you’re getting in there with him in a tag match.  I’ve given Abyss the green light to drag you from pillar to post… his partner, HULK HOGAN!”
• Mike Tenay says “HOLY SHIT!” on commentary.
• Flair and Styles are pissed beyond belief.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

In all honesty, I have to admit it was a good show… even if there was only 20 minutes of wrestling.  The story lines that TNA are putting out there are intriguing because they’ve already instilled bad blood between guys and bringing up hatred between past rivals.  That and they allowed Hogan to get all busted up and bloody.  It added to the story last night to have it.

I can see the rift being formed between Matt Morgan and Hernandez already.  I’m guessing they’re going to lose the belts soon and then start a singles program with each other.

Daffney again goes on the war path!  Damn!  Zombie hotness may be getting a title shot here soon.  We’ll see…

I ultimately figured that when Kazarian came back last week that they’d put him in a title match.  He’s a great performer, but I’m one of those people that don’t want to see a guy come back from out of nowhere win a title shot.  Let him work a few matches and earn it first in the fans eyes.

I can’t wait to see Angle and Anderson square off again.  There is so much hatred right now from Kurt Angle it’s insane.  Anderson just sitting on the ramp talking, not realizing Kurt is standing right behind him with a chair, and the fans cheering for Kurt as he just waits to pick his spot!  That was awesome!
