Ring of Honor – 4/5/10

facebooktwitterreddit

After a two week lay off, Ring of Honor wrestling is back on HDNet, and I’m excited!  Here’s what went down tonight:

Steve Corino vs. Bobby Shields
WINNER: Corino via pin fall after a low running lariat

  • Mid way through the match, Colt Cabana comes out to the entry way to get a better look at the match.
  • After match, Corino calls for Cabana to come into the ring.  He wants to talk man to man.  “I’ve told you twice now, be careful who you stand up for because this is your last warning.”
  • Corino tries to attack Cabana, but Cabana gets the best of the exchange.  Kevin Steen comes running down, but Corino holds him back.

Video Package: Lead up to the Big Bang ROH World Title match between Champion Tyler Black, Roderick Strong & Austin Aries.  Unfortunately because of the two week lay off, it’s airing late.  The Big Bang was this past Saturday, but is now on demand online at GoFightLive.

Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis & Kory Chavis) vs. The Set (Lance Lewd & Jay Sin)
WINNERS: DCFC via pin fall after hitting the combo neck breaker/power bomb

Video Package: Look back on Jerry Lynn‘s time and accolades in Ring of Honor leading up to the attack on him by Kenny King & Rhett Titus.

  • Highlight reel of Jerry Lynn’s triumphant return to ROH in Los Angeles at Wrestle Reunion 4 against Kenny King.  DVD available soon!

Erick Stevens with Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris vs. Pelle Primo
WINNER: Stevens via pin fall after hitting the Dr. Bomb

  • After match, The Embassy attacks Pelle Primo for no reason, and Necro Butcher comes through the crowd with a chair to clear the ring.

Video Package: Recap of the World TV Title Tournament.  Advancing to round two, Kevin Steen, Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, and Kenny King.

Pick Six Contender Series Match
Chris Hero with Shane Hagadorn, Sara Del Rey & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Jay Briscoe with Mark Briscoe
WINNER: Hero via pin fall after hitting the Death Blow

QUICK THOUGHTS:

The two video packages they showed tonight on the broadcast were very long, probably about 10 minutes combined.  Was a bit shocked that they would air a video package in preparation for something after it already occurred.  ROH not being on the air for two weeks leading up to a PPV probably was a blow to their buy rate.

For the most part, the card tonight was relatively weak.  There were essentially three squash matches, and then the main event.  I’ll give them a ton of credit for the main event.  Played up very well because of the rivalry between the Briscoe Bros. & The Kings of Wrestling.  Great back and forth match with “That Young Knockout Kid” Chris Hero standing tall!
