TNA Impact – 4/12/10

On the final episode of Impact before Lockdown, would Team Flair or Team Hogan gain the momentum going into this weekend’s brutal Lethal Lockdown match up?  Find out what went down right here:

Jeff Jarrett comes to the ring and takes the mic, “Almost eight years ago I founded TNA.  It stands for Total Nonstop Action.  So Sting, I’m not going to talk about kicking your ass… I’m going to do it!”

  • Jarrett goes up into the rafters to find Sting.  He finds him and they brawl from the rafters all the way back to the ring.  Jarrett gives Sting a chance to explain himself in the ring as crowd chants, “WHY STING WHY?!?”  Lights out/on, Sting’s got the baseball bat and peppers Jarrett with it multiple times.
  • Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, and Abyss come to the ring to the rescue.  Sting bails.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with Team Flair.  Ric Flair says, “Did you see that?  Sting just laid out Jarrett!  That’s a preview ofthings to come!”

  • Robert Roode takes the mic and talks some trash about RVD and Hardy.
  • Desmond Wolfe takes his turn and talks junk about how he’s going to maim Abyss tonight!
  • Then, the champ, AJ Styles, says his peace, “This ends at Lockdown… there’s two things you can do, NOTHING and LIKE IT!”

Team 3D and Jesse Neal come out to the entrance ramp.  Brother Ray takes a mic and says to The Band, “Hulk Hogan is just as pissed off as you as we are, so our tag team match tonight, is now a 6-man tag, and it’s also going to be a New York City Street Fight!”

NYC Street Fight
Team 3D & Jesse Neal vs. The Band (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall & Syxx Pac)
WINNERS: The Band via pin fall after Pac put Brother Ray through a table with the X-Factor

  • Team 3D had the match well in hand, when Bubba the Love Sponge came down and distracted Ray, allowing Pac to take advantage of the situation.
  • After match, Eric Young runs down and clears house with a hockey stick.  He takes the mic and challenges Kevin Nash to a match at Lockdown.

Backstage: Christy Hemme catches up with Hulk Hogan, asks him for a reaction to his team getting attacked going into Lockdown.  He responds, “We’ve got four main event guys that are real serious about Lockdown!”

  • Hogan hears Eric Bischoff talking to Ric Flair, and he waits for Bischoff to finish and round the corner before confronting him.  Bischoff thinks Hogan is jumping to conclusions, but Hogan wants to talk more in his office.

Shannon Moore vs. Kazarian
WINNER: Time Limit Draw

  • Mid match, Doug Williams comes to the broadcast table to talk crap about the X-Division.
  • After match, Williams takes mic, “Come Lockdown, I’m going to put an end to this nonsense once and for all!”

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with Velvet Sky, gets her reasoning for the leather and lace match tonight.  She ignores the qustion and says, “the reason why tonight’s match isn’t for the Knockout’s Title is because at Lockdown, it’s The Beautiful People against Tara & Angelina Love, and if one of the BPs wins, they get the Knockout Title!

  • JB adds that if the opposite happens, one of them pins the Beautiful People, then they’ll win the Knockout Tag Titles.

Backstage: In the office, Hogan is chewing out Bischoff for plotting with Ric Flair.

  • Bischoff tells him “You’re blaming me for being me.  I’m not plotting anything…  I’m trying to gain Flair’s trust!”  Bischoff leaves.
  • Enter Jay Lethal.  Black Machismo says, “We’ve got to do something about this Band.  So what do you say you and I lace up the boots one more time and let the Mega Powers ride..?
  • Hogan plays along and then when Lethal leaves he sulks back into his chair.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with Angelina Love to get her reaction to the leather and lace match.  She replies, “I didn’t come here to parade like a lady of the night.  I came to TNA to bring women’s wrestling to a whole new level…”

  • Interrupted by Tara who’s pissed she lost the Knockout’s title last week in the silly lock box showdown.

Backstage: Christy Hemme with D’Angelo Dinero and Abyss.  The Pope speaks, “Lockdown is going to be Pope’s defining moment in his career and life!”

  • Abyss adds, “Last week, Wolfe you tried to take me out.  It’s going to take a lot more than a fire extinguisher to the face to stop me.  Next time bring the whole fire truck or a bazooka or a rocket launcher!  If you want to put me down, you will have to take my last breath.”

Leather and Lace Match
Angelina Love vs. Velvet Sky

  • Before match even starts, since Velvet could make the match with the contract she won in the lock box showdown, she changes the match from leather and lace (bra and panties) to one on one, but with Angelina hand cuffed.
  • Mid match, Velvet also adds that it’s an I Quit match.

WINNER: NONE

  • Mid match, The Beautiful People come to help Velvet, and Tara decides to come and help Angelina.  The match just stops after Tara cleared the ring.

Backstage: Christy Hemme reporting from the parking lot as we see Abyss sprawled out on the ground.  She reports that Abyss was hit by a car.  EMTs arrive and Hulk Hogan is worried.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash tells his guest, Matt Morgan, that in his match tonight he must pick a partner to replace Hernandez (whom Morgan injured).  Morgan did find a partner, and it’s Amazing Red.

Tag Team Titles
Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) vs. Matt Morgan & Amazing Red (Champions)
WINNERS: Morgan and Red via pin fall after Red hit the Code Red on Sabin

  • After the match, Morgan attacked Red and if not for Sabin pulling Red out of the way, he would’ve suffered the same fate as Morgan’s previous partner Hernandez, getting his head kicked into the ring post.

Backstage: Christy Hemme updates us on Abyss’ condition and says there is a surveillance video of the accident.

  • We see Abyss get hit by a car, and it looks as if Desmond Wolfe is driving.

Robert Roode vs. Jeff Hardy
WINNER: Hardy via pin fall after hitting a Swanton

  • After match, James Storm attacked Hardy and then pulled out a lighter and a bottle and blew a fire ball in Hardy’s face.
  • RVD tries to run down, but the numbers game gets the best of him.

Taz & Mike Tenay run down the big matches on the Lockdown card.

Video Package:  A look at the feud between Kurt Angle & Mr. Anderson.

Backstage: Jeremy Borash is with The Pope who’s now down a tag team partner for tonight’s main event since Abyss is injured.  Pope sends his prayers out to Abyss when his segment is interrupted by Black Machismo who volunteers himself to be Pope’s tag partner.

TNA cameras catch a famous face in the audience, Dog The Bounty Hunter.

Pope is introduced for the match, but before Jay Lethal gets introduced, cameras capture Beer Money Inc. jumping Machismo in the back.

  • AJ Styles is introduced, followed by Desmond Wolfe.  However, after Wolfe gets to the ramp, he’s clocked in the back with a chair by Hulk Hogan.

AJ Styles with Ric Flair & Chelsea vs. “Pope” D’Angelo Dinero
WINNER: Pope via DQ

  • Pope had match well in hand until Flair got up out of the wheel chair (playing possum?) and clocked Pope with the TNA Title in the back of the head.  DQ called and a post match beat down ensued with Beer Money joining Flair and Styles.
  • Hogan comes to the ramp and looks like he’s in disbelief that all the members of Team Hogan were taken out tonight.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

I thought this show was Total Nonstop Action… Isnt’ that right Jeff Jarrett?  You said that in your opening promo.  Well tonight, it was Total Nonstop backstage segments!  There were twice as many backstage segments as there were matches on the card!  What the hell?!?

Of the matches they actually did have, once again the X-Division steals the show!  Kazarian and Shannon Moore takes the honors for match of the night!

The women’s match (if you could call that a match) was a gigantic waste of time in my opinion.  The street fight was at least bearable because I wanted to see The Band get their asses whooped, and then because of that fat bastard, BTLS, Team 3D loses the match that they were handling in… WTF?!?

All the attacks throughout the show, and the lead in to the main event was just ridiculous to me.  I hate to have most of my opinions be bashing, but tonight was just hard to watch, especially considering this is the offering going into the Lockdown PPV.

I’m going to have my predictions coming on Sunday, so stay tuned for that!
