It’s Monday, and you know where you’re going to see real pro wrestling?  On Ring of Honor on HDNet.  Tonight, the TV Title Tournament continued and by night’s end we would know who would be squaring off for the belt.  What happened?  Find out right here:

Video Package: What happened on ROH on HDNet last week:

  • Tyler Black is still the champ, but he’s got a bull’s eye on his back.  Who has him in his sights?  Davey Richards of the American Wolves.
  • Jerry Lynn made his return to ROH on HDNet, and vowed to get revenge on Kenny King & Rhett Titus for putting him out of action.
  • El Generico finally snapped on Steve Corino and cost his former partner, Kevin Steen, his opportunity to go to the finals of the TV Title Tournament when he distracted Steen in his match against Eddie Edwards.

Ricky Reyes vs. Colt Cabana
WINNER: Cabana via pin fall after hitting the Colt 45 (Butterfly Backbreaker)

Video Package: Clips from the Big Bang Internet PPV.  Colt Cabana and El Generico squared off against Kevin Steen and Steve Corino.  Both teams were beaten and battered.  After show, both also vowed to destroy the other.

  • This weekend in Chicago, these teams will square off again in a Chicago Street Fight.

Video Package: Clips shown again of Davey Richards putting Tyler Black on notice.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Tyler Black, “Holding this title is going to be tougher than getting it… they’re the challengers, I’m the champion!”

Video Package: Highlights from the Big Bang main event where Tyler Black successfully defended his ROH World Title against, Austin Aries & Roderick Strong.

Video Package: How Davey Richards and Kenny King made it to the semifinal round of the TV Title Tournament.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Kenny King who first off gives kudos to Eddie Edwards for winning his match up last week against Kevin Steen.  King then goes to cut a promo on his opponent tonight, Davey Richards, who walks into the room.  Richards lets him finish.  King says, “Everyone knows he (Edwards) carried your ass!”

  • Richards says to King, “I know why he’d want to face you in the finals.  It’s because beating your sorry ass isn’t just business, it would be a pleasure!”

Video Package: More highlights from the Big Bang as the Kings of Wrestling defeated the Briscoe Bros. to become the new ROH Tag Team Champions.

Briscoe Bros. vs. Josh Raymond & Christian Able
WINNERS: Briscoes via pin fall after hitting the Doomsday Device

Video Package: Austin Aries had a candid, sit down interview.  Talks about how when he first started with ROH he was there to please the fans, but the fans didn’t appreciate him.  When HDNet came calling, he changed his style to where he’d have more fun and not care so much about what the fans thought.  He’s also still pissed off at Jim Cornette for stacking the deck against him.

TV Title Tournament – Semifinals
Kenny King vs. Davey Richards with Shane Hagadorn
WINNER: Richards via submission after he locked King in a Cross Arm Breaker

  • Next week, the finals are set and it will be the partners, Richards and Edwards taking on each other for the TV Title!

QUICK THOUGHTS:

There were quite a bit more promos and backstage segments than I would like on a ROH show, but most of them are trying to convey and push through story lines.  At least they’re not just pointless guest host segments like some other show on Monday night.

Reyes & Cabana wasn’t a bad match, but I think it was too short.  I had heard of Ricky Reyes, but never seen him wrestle before.  It went back and forth most of the match, but I figured Cabana would win because he’s the bigger name… well that and it was Reyes’ debut on HDNet.

The tag team match was the most random thing ever.  It was sort of a squash, but not… Let me explain.  The Briscoes are the former Tag Champs.  The other guys are run of the mill wrestlers.  Well, Raymond & Able controlled about 95% of the match… The 5% they didn’t control was the finish.  The match was only about 7-10 mins max, and you knew the Briscoes were going to win, but I didn’t expect they would get handled pretty well by the younger guys.

TV Title Tourney match was great!  Technical grappling, back and forth with counters!  Only one real botched spot, and thank God it didn’t turn out badly.  Richards countered a move of Kings off the top rope into a Hurricanrana, and almost landed on his head.  Looking forward to next week as the Wolves take on each other for the TV Title!
