TNA Lockdown – Review/Results

facebooktwitterreddit

TNA Lockdown is in the books, and it did not fail to live up to it’s moniker as one of the most dangerous PPVs in TNA.  There was plenty of blood spilled on the canvas last night from the opening contest all the way to the main event.  Do you want to know what happened?  Well, you came to the right place!  Here you go:

Right off the intro video package, Taz & Mike Tenay come on the screen to give us a few announcements:

  1. Doug Williams is stuck in England because of the fallout from the volcano that’s covering Europe (it’s been all over the news).  He’s supposed to be defending the X-Division Title tonight in a triple threat match.  TNA has stripped Doug Williams of the X-Division Title.
  2. Syxx Pac no shows the 1pm check in time for all wrestlers at the venue in St. Louis.  If he did show up after that time, TNA refuses to let him participate in the PPV.  Scott Hall will have to find a new partner or go it alone against Team 3D.
  3. Eric Bischoff hasn’t been seen for over twenty-four hours.  No one has a clue where he is or if he’ll show up.

Lethal Lockdown Advantage Match
Rob Van Dam vs. James Storm
WINNER: RVD via pin fall after hitting the Five Star Frog Splash

  • Didn’t anticipate this happening.  Usually the heels always have the numbers advantage going into a match like Lethal Lockdown.  Both guys will be back later in the Lethal Lockdown main event.

X-Division Xscape Match (ADDED/CHANGED ON CARD) [Winner added to X-Division Title Match]
Homicide vs. Brian Kendrick vs. Alex Shelley vs. Chris Sabin
WINNER: Homicide via escape of the cage

  • Thought it might be one of the Motor City Machine Guns taking this one once it was announced.  With Homicide winning, he too now has to pull double duty in the cage.  Yikes!

Kevin Nash vs. Eric Young
WINNER: Nash via pin fall after hitting the Jackknife Power Bomb.

(Post match, Nash says he’ll be Hall’s partner later)

  • Didn’t think Eric Young would lose this match, but I can’t help but wonder if the finish was changed because of Syxx Pac no showing and they needed Nash to tag team with Hall later in the night?  Nash is now the forth person who will have to pull double duty in the cage on this PPV.

All TNA Knockout Titles On The Line
The Beautiful People (Tag Champions) vs. Tara & Angelina Love (KO Champion)
WINNER: The Beautiful People via pin fall

(Lacey Von Erich hit Tara with a belt, and Madison Rayne pinned her to become the NEW TNA Knockouts Champion!  Post match, Tara went off and slammed Angelina Love into the cage.)

  • Well I figured The Beautiful People would come out victorious, but didn’t see Madison getting the pin.  This could cause for some jealousy from Velvet Sky.  Maybe destroy the Beautiful People from the inside..?

Triple Threat, X-Division Title Match (VACANT)
Kazarian vs. Shannon Moore vs. Homicide
WINNER: Kazarian via pin fall after hitting a wicked Reverse Tombstone Piledriver

  • First off, I’m pissed the hell off that Doug Williams couldn’t get to the States b/c of that damn volcano.  I’m even more pissed off that they stripped him of the X-Division Title because of circumstances beyond his control.  My guess is that they were going to take the belt off of him anyways, but that’s neither here nor there.  You don’t strip a guy of a title when an act of God prevents him from being there!  That’s such crap!  The match was decent, and I’m happy Kaz won, but after all the shit talking from Williams about the X-Division “trapeze artists,” you wished he could’ve been there to back up his mouth.

St. Louis Street Fight (Falls Count Anywhere)
Team 3D vs. The Band
WINNERS: Team 3D via pin fall after hitting Scott Hall with a 3D through a table

  • It’s about damn time that someone beat those assholes in The Band!  Thank you Team 3D for finally getting the job done!  They brawled all over the arena, but ultimately the match ended inside the center of the steel cage surrounded ring.

Escape Through the Door w/ the Key
Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson (has key)
WINNER: Angle via escape after choking Anderson out with his Warrior Medal and then stomping on his “yam bag!” (Taz-ism)

  • Glad now that Kurt Angle can go on vacation on top!  He deserves it!  This whole rivalry with Anderson has been very brutal and graphic.  This match was just awesome to watch!  After the match, he even vowed that when he comes back he’s going to be 100% focused on the TNA World Title!  Rest up Kurt!

TNA World Title Match
“Pope” D’Angelo Dinero vs. AJ Styles (Champion)
WINNER: Styles via pin fall after stealing a pen from the camera man and stabbing Pope in the face with it, then hitting the Styles Clash to retain the title

  • Ric Flair was thrown out of the ringside area before the match started, so I thought that maybe Pope would have a shot.  However, the “dirtiest player in the game” has shown his best moves to AJ Styles and he retains the title b/c of a pen.  Wow…  I think people are going to blame Vince Russo for that crappy finish.

Lethal Lockdown Match
Team Flair vs. Team Hogan
Order of Entry:

  1. Abyss
  2. Robert Roode
  3. Rob Van Dam
  4. Desmond Wolfe with Chelsea
  5. Jeff Jarrett
  6. James Storm
  7. Jeff Hardy (attacked backstage by Sting; would enter match later)
  8. Sting
  • Ric Flair & Hulk Hogan would come down.  Eric Bischoff finally shows up and gets in between them mid match, asking for Hogan to give up the baseball bat he was about to hit Flair with.  Instead Bischoff gives Hogan brass knuckles and then he lets him loose!

WINNERS: Team Hogan via pin fall after Abyss hit Desmond Wolfe with a Black Hole Slam

  • There were some scary moments in this match.  Jeff Hardy did a splash off a ladder that was on the top of the cage, on to one of the Beer Money Inc guys who was on a table (also on top of cage).
  • Also, Flair and Sting both took bumps into thumbtacks.  Both were bleeding from their beatings, as well as RVD’s injury from the opening contest was reopened.
  • I was excited watching this match until the end.  If I went with logic, I would’ve successfully predicted this match… dammit!  I have to remember to stick to the plan.  It normally holds true!

So, all in all I think this was a good PPV.  If there wasn’t all of the BS involved with the no-shows and overbooked endings it could’ve been better, plain and simple.  Till next time…
