Ring of Honor – 4/26/10
Tonight on Ring of Honor wrestling, we had the culmination of the ROH TV Title Tournament. Two tag team partners squared off to see who would go down in history as the first TV Champion. Who would walk away victorious? Find out here:
Earlier Today: Kyle Durdan is with Tyler Black and they let the world know that on May 8th in New York City, he’ll defend his ROH World Title against Roderick Strong one on one. Black addresses Strong, “I’m going to stop Strong’s whining!”
Backstage: Jim Cornette has the TV Title and announces the two competitors to the world, Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards, both of the American Wolves.
Non-Title Match
Rhett Titus vs. Tyler Black
WINNER: Black via pin fall after hitting God’s Last Gift
- Mid match, Kenny King came down to the ring and distracted the referee as Austin Aries attacked Black. Roderick Strong came out to get Aries and King out of the ring side area.
- After match, Strong gets in ring and takes mic. “From this moment, we’re best friends. Let’s say I’m your guardian angel… Nobody is going to get their hands on you until I do!”
- Tyler responds, “Why do you go to keep whining about this… why do you keep acting like a little bitch?!?”
- Fight breaks out between the two and referees have to break it up.
Video Package: A look at how we’ve gotten to this point between Black and Strong.
Rasche Brown vs. James Stone
WINNER: Brown via pin fall after hitting the Burning Hammer
Video Package: A look at the American Wolves and where they’ve been as a tag team. Where do they go after tonight’s showdown?
Shawn Daivari comes to the ring, “Last time, I introduced you to Shawn Daivari, the wrestler. Tonight, I introduce you to Shawn Daivari, the man… I’m sick of modern day America and modern day Americans… you pass prejudice judgment against me because I’m different… very soon you’ll understand why we’re here!”
ROH TV Title Tournament Finals
Eddie Edwards vs. Davey Richards (Shane Hagadorn at ring side supporting both men)
WINNER: Edwards via submission after locking on the Achilles Lock to become the first ever ROH TV Champion
- After match, Richards takes belt from ref and the two Wolves have words. Richards shows Edwards respect by putting the belt around his waist.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
Opening contest was good even though it was non-title. It’s good to see that they’re not going to let Austin Aries sit idly by as Tyler Black goes to defend his title against Roderick Strong in a week or so. I’m guessing that Aries will continue to attack Black & Strong with his goons.
Once again, Rasche Brown wins with no problems. I don’t know how many matches this has been, but please ROH, give “Skullkrusher” someone decent to destroy. That’s all I ask! We’ve got the point that he’s dominant against jobbers. Now I want to see him face someone that could cause some problems.
The finals of the TV Title Tournament was a great match. Being that Richards and Edwards are tag team partners, the match was full of stalemates and counters because they knew each others move set and style. I’m a big fan of Richards because of his straight forward, beat your ass down, style, and part of me is a little upset that he didn’t pull this out, but Eddie Edwards deserved it! He’s done a lot for ROH, and I think that this is a direct result for wrestling with a broken elbow in Ladder War II. Congrats to Edwards for going into the history book as the first ever ROH TV Champion!
