Ring of Honor – 5/3/10
This weekend at a Ring of Honor live event, there will be a big ROH World Title match! Tonight though is ROH on HDNet. Will the feud between Roderick Strong & ROH Champion Tyler Black spill over on tonight’s broadcast? Find out what went down right here:
Video Package: The build up to this weekend’s title match between Strong and Black in New York City.
Pick Six Contender Series Match
Joey Ryan with Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris vs. Roderick Strong
WINNER: Strong via submission due to the Strong Hold (Lion Tamer)
Video Package: Look back at the finals of the World TV Title Tournament between Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards. After a fierce contest, Edwards won and became the first ever ROH TV Champion.
- So far, the American Wolves are still a solid tag team unit after this battle.
Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis Kory Chavis) vs. Pee Wee & Caleb Connoly
WINNERS: DCFC via pin fall after hitting Project Mayhem
- After match, Kyle Durden asks DCFC about eventually becoming champions… They’re pissed off about being considered second rate tag team and claim they’re the next ROH Tag Team Champions!
Backstage: ROH Tag Champions, Kings of Wrestling (Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero), cut a promo on the Briscoe Bros. saying that they need to get to the back of the line since they lost at the Big Bang, and they get no rematch!
Backstage: Briscoe Bros. are pleading with Jim Cornette about a title shot. Cornette says that if they give him some space, he’ll take care of them.
Video Package: The Art of Wrestling segment with Colt Cabana – Sonjay Dutt is the guest and he teaches Colt about “swagger” and dresses him up in the most ridiculous looking clothes that makes him look like a white boy trying to be from the hood.
Backstage: Jim Cornette talking to Necro Butcher about his suspension from HDNet for hitting the time keeper. Cornette makes a deal with Necro… If he can keep the matches in the ring area (to avoid fan lawsuits), he can come back on TV and his matches can be Butcher’s Rules (anything goes)… Necro doesn’t hesitate and accepts the offer.
Video Package: Austin Aries talking more about himself and his history with Ring of Honor. He shows off one of the cameras that he claims was brought in to help the fans appreciate him more in HD!
Butcher’s Rules
Necro Butcher vs. Robbie Wolfe
WINNER: Necro via pin after hitting a Side Slam onto two UPRIGHT chairs.
Backstage: Kyle Durden with ROH Champion, Tyler Black. He talks a bit about his match with his former friend, Roderick Strong. Black says, he’ll “do whatever it takes to keep his title!”
Pick Six Contender Series Match
Austin Aries with Kenny King vs. Delirious with Daizee Haze
WINNER: Delirious via DQ
- Mid match, Aries kicked Delirious in the throat and a doctor had to be called to the ring to take a look at him. Match declared over.
- After match, Aries & King attacked Daizee, and then assaulted Delirious some more. Jerry Lynn came out to help and tried to get some sort of revenge against Kenny King who bailed out of the arena.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
I’m not shocked that Roderick Strong won his match up with Joey Ryan. The one thing that I am shocked about is the fact that Ryan beat up Strong pretty good throughout the duration of the match before Strong finally made him tapout.
The two middle matches were essentially squash matches, and not really all that entertaining unless you like watching jobbers taking crazy bumps or chair shots.
The main event was pretty good until the throat kick. It was a very random ending. Maybe they’re starting a rivalry between Aries and Delirious, or maybe they’re just trying to make Aries look like he’ll do anything to get back the ROH World Title? Jerry Lynn coming down after the match wasn’t much of a shocker considering Kenny King almost ended his career. He’ll get his hands on King soon enough.
