Smackdown – 5/21/10
On the last Smackdown broadcast before the Over The Limit PPV, who would gain some momentum heading into Sunday? Find out right here:
(EDITORS NOTE – I apologize for the tardiness of this post. My Network TV again changed the show to Saturday night. I also was busy working on other wrestling items for my local fed.)
Video Package: Last week, Jack Swagger brings all his trophies to the ring to gloat about his past accolades. Big Show comes down to interrupt and ends up breaking every single one of them.
CM Punk & Straightedge Society are in the ring with three new recruits. Luke Gallows & Serena each talk highly of their new found lifestyle thanks to the “Straightedge Savior.”
- Punk has the three gentlemen pledge their allegiance to him and a clean lifestyle. Each has their head shaved.
- Interrupted by Rey Mysterio who’s annoyed with all this show about straightedge. He claims that “the crowd will be laughing on Sunday when he looks like this…” Picture shown on the Titantron of Punk with no hair.
- During the commercial, Punk uses the pledges to show what he’s going to do to Rey on Sunday. He, Gallows, and Serena destroy them.
Video Package: Layla & Michelle McCool are now both the WWE Women’s Champion after beating Beth Phoenix.
LayCool vs. Kelly Kelly & Tiffany
WINNERS: LayCool via pin fall after McCool hit the Faith Breaker on Tiffany
Backstage: Big Show pokes fun at Jack Swagger with his own “Did You Know” segment saying, “Did you know three weeks ago I knocked Jack Swagger out?” Video of event shown.
JTG vs. Caylen Croft with Trent Barreta
WINNER: JTG via pin fall after hitting the Shout Out
Backstage: Christian enters the office of Vickie Guerrero who is excited that tonight will be the return of the Peep Show segment. She asks Christian about being his first guest.
- Christian says he wants people to actually watch the show, and then lists a bunch of people who were higher than her on his list. He then tells her that his guest tonight, he’s never seen eye to eye with.
Curt Hawkins & Vance Archer vs. Brent Roberts & Jeremy Barner
WINNERS: Hawkins/Archer via pin fall after the Reverse DDT to Flying Elbow combo
- Post match, Hawkins takes the mic, “Twenty-two days left for us to make an impact… We’re going to do it whether you like it or not.
Backstage: Big Show back for another “Did You Know” segment saying, “Did you know two weeks ago I choke slammed Jack Swagger through an announce table. Video of event shown.
Jack Swagger to the ring, “Big Show, you disrespected me, my accomplishments, the great state of Oklahoma, and my daddy. More importantly, you disrespected the World Heavyweight Championship itself! On Sunday, the announcer will say the winner and still World Heavyweight Champion, The All-American American, Jack Swagger!”
Jack Swagger vs. Kofi Kingston
WINNER: Kingston via pin fall after hitting a flying cross body
- Mid match, Big Show to the ramp to tell Swagger something to distract him. Kofi took advantage.
- Post match, the message Show was trying to tell Swagger was “Did you know, Kofi just beat you?!?”
Christian to the ring for the Peep Show segment. He introduces the guest he doesn’t see eye to eye with… Hornswoggle. Christian and Hornswoggle laugh it up and “Capt. Charisma” teaches him a little big of the Canadian language, words like ehh, hoser, hockey, and beer.
- Interrupted by Vickie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero who are there to shut down the Peep Show. Vickie is in disbelief that Hornswoggle is the guest and not her. She takes a cheap shot at Canada.
- Christian comes back with saying if she didn’t interrupt him, he would’ve taught Hornswoggle one more word, obesity!
- Vickie is pissed that she sends Chavo to the ring to remove Christian, but it’s Dolph Ziggler who attacks Christian from behind. He hits a Zig Zag and Chavo follows it up with a Frog Splash. Hornswoggle hides.
Rey Mysterio & MVP vs. CM Punk & Luke Gallows with Serena
WINNERS: Mysterio/MVP via pin fall after Rey hit a hurricanrana roll up
- Mid match, the SES’ masked assassin tried to attack Rey, but he was fought off.
Backstage: Josh Matthews is with Drew McIntyre and asks him if he feels deserving of his title?
- McIntyre responds. “Matt Hardy got what he deserved. Teddy Long got what he deserved. I got what I deserved because I’m the chosen one!”
- Interrupted by Kofi Kingston, “The Intercontinental Title is mine! I earned it, and I deserve it!”
Non-Title Match
Big Show vs. Drew McIntrey
WINNER: Show via DQ after Jack Swagger ran in trying to attack Show’s knockout hand, but Show fights him off.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
The SES got a lot of air time last night. They really want to hammer this home about Rey joining or Punk losing his hair. I’m hoping the match at the PPV lives up to the build up.
Women’s match was just average at best. I don’t get why really LayCool each has a Women’s Title, and whoever came up with that idea should be fired.
JTG and Caylen Croft put on a decent match. I’m sure these two guys will be squaring off more as their careers take off.
Also good to see Hawkins and Archer get some more air time. They destroyed two jobbers, but it’s air time nonetheless.
Swagger and Kofi was a decent match until Big Show caused the distraction. Not looking forward to Show vs. Swagger at Over The Limit, but they may surprise me with a decent match.
Peep Show segment was funny, and now has started a rivalry between Vickie Guerrero and Christian. I’m guessing that Christian is now going to be the one who constantly gets under Vickie’s skin and feels the wrath of her power trip.
