HDNet’s weekly wrestling program, Ring of Honor, is back on the air.  Tonight had two matches and a lot of recapping of past weeks.  Find out what happened right here:

Video Package: All the issues over the past months with Necro Butcher, his suspension, and his rivalry with The Embassy.

Backstage: Joey Ryan & Eddie Kingston cut promos on each other.  Both are ready to beat down the other tonight!

Joey Ryan with Prince Nana & Ernesto Osiris vs. Eddie Kingston
WINNER: Kingston via DQ after Shawn Daivari ran in and attacked Kingston

  • Post match beat down by The Embassy on Kingston until Necro Butcher comes down to clear the ring with a trash can.
  • Jim Cornette comes to the entrance ramp and makes an impromptu match under Butcher’s rules.

Butcher’s Rules (No Rules)
Joey Ryan & Shawn Daivari vs. Eddie Kingston & Necro Butcher
WINNERS: Ryan/Daivari via pin fall after Daivari kicked Kingston in the groin

  • Post match beat down by The Embassy on both Kingston and Necro.  “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown comes to the ring, and puts the rumors to rest that he’s joining The Embassy by attacking them and saving Kingston and Necro.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Steve Corino who requested this interview time.  He puts Colt Cabana in his place calling him a whiner and a loser who wants no part of him or Kevin Steen

Video Package: A look back at the events that took place at Super Card of Honor V…

  • Special appearance by Balls Mahoney
  • Sara Del Rey takes on Amazing Kong
  • Christopher Daniels returns
  • Delirious tries to get revenge on Austin Aries
  • Kevin Steen vs. Colt Cabana in a death match
  • Briscoe Bros. want their tag titles back from Kings of Wrestling
  • Tyler Black defends his ROH World Title against Roderick Strong

Video Package: Look back at the throat kick from Austin Aries on Delirious, and the post match attack on him and Daizee Haze.

Video Package: Last week, Austin Aries tried to offer his expertise to help Roderick Strong to the top.  Strong takes exception and slaps A-Double.  A-Double then comes back and attacks Strong just before his match with Kevin Steen.

Backstage: Kyle Durden with Austin Aries and asks about his non-title match with Tyler Black on the next ROH broadcast.  Aries isn’t upset that it’s non-title because he expects to win and use this as a way to shake Black’s confidence and prove that he’s the best and he’s got all the power.

World TV Title Match
Eddie Edwards with Shane Hagadorn (Champion) vs. Colt Cabana
WINNER: Edwards via submission due to an Achilles Lock

  • Mid match, Steve Corino came to the ring and distracted Cabana.
  • Post match, Corino tries to attack Cabana, but Colt turns it around.  Kevin Steen pulls Corino out of the ring to avoid further harm.

***No ROH next week as they are being preempted.***

QUICK THOUGHTS:

So to be frank, I have to say that this was one of the poorest Ring of Honor’s I’ve seen since the inception of the show on HDNet.  I wasn’t just subjected to one, but two Eddie Kingston matches, and almost half of the show was backstage segments or video packages for past or future shows.  This is NOT the Ring of Honor I pay extra money every month to get HDNet for!

The main event wasn’t a bad match at all, but by the time I got to it I was just hoping for something that would knock my socks off.  Three average to mediocre matches on an hour broadcast isn’t going to cut it.  They’ve got to not fall into the “sports-entertainment” trap.  They need to get back to what we all want to see from Ring of Honor, and that’s REAL pro wrestling!
