Smackdown – 6/4/10

facebooktwitterreddit

Now that the Smackdown main event for Fatal 4 Way is set, how would the competitors interact with each other?  Could things go in a direction that no one saw coming?  Find out what went down, right here:

Backstage: Teddy Long is in his office and he speaks directly to the camera.  He informs us of a situation that occurred last weekend in which Kane found his brother, The Undertaker, in a “vegetative state.”  He tells us that there’s an investigation under way.

Back in the arena, lights go out.  A spotlight shines down on the entrance ramp where a casket is sitting.  Some druids come out from the back and push the casket to ring side.  All is solemn until Kane’s music hits.  He comes to the ring and asks for the coffin to be opened.  It’s empty.  A podium is set up in the ring and he speaks about his brother, giving a eulogy of sorts.  He mentions that The Undertaker is “gone from the WWE by an act of cowardice… my brother will rise from the dead no more… soon enough those responsible for this atrocity will be gone as well…”

  • Kane looks like he’s overwhelmed with the situation.  He falls to the ground and cries at the coffin.

Non-Title Match
Jack Swagger vs. MVP
WINNER: Swagger via pin fall roll up

  • Post match, Curt Hawkins & Vance Archer attack MVP from behind and hit their Reverse DDT to Elbow Drop combo.

Backstage: Vickie Guerrero approaches Teddy Long about the Fatal 4 Way situation now that The Undertaker is out of action.  She pushes to add Dolph Ziggler to the mix.  Teddy has this great idea to have a Battle Royal and the winner gets the vacant spot.

Backstage: CM Punk getting ready.  Kane busts into the locker room and goozles him by the throat to interrogate about his brothers incident.  Punk’s terrified, but claims that he didn’t do it.  He even offers to have the Straightedge Society help him with the search.

Intercontinental Title Rematch
Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston (Champion)
WINNER: Kingston via pin fall after hitting the SOS

  • Mid match, Matt Hardy, who’s suspended, paid for a ticket and sat ring side for this match.  At one point, McIntyre backhanded Hardy when he and Kofi were out fighting on the floor.
  • Post match, Hardy, who was being held by security, breaks away and jumps the guard rail.  He gets in the ring and hits McIntyre with the Twist of Fate, and runs for the exit.

Backstage: Kane’s upset.  He’s approached by Rey Mysterio who says a little prayer and then says he’s sorry for Kane’s loss.  Kane turns and accuses Rey of attacking his brother.  Rey denies it, but Kane doesn’t want to take his or anyone’s word for it.

Backstage: Jack Swagger talks to the camera.  He says that people shouldn’t doubt him or the Oklahoma Sooners (pisses the crowd off because they’re in Dallas, TX).  He starts to sing the Boomer Sooner fight song when Kane walks up behind him.  Kane simply asks was it you to Swagger.  Swagger shakes his head no, terrified.

Rosa Mendes vs. Kelly Kelly
WINNER: Kelly via pin fall after hitting the K2 (think back to Billy Gunn‘s Famasser leg drop)

  • Mid match, co-Women’s Champions, Layla & Michelle McCool, come to the ramp to scout the match.

Backstage: Big Show & Hornswoggle are playing cards.  Kane busts in and accuses Show of attacking Taker.  Hornswoggle runs out of the room.  Show says he had nothing to do with it, and if Kane’s accusing him, he’s making a big mistake.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Bet you didn’t think you’d see one of these posts today considering the track record of My Network TV and the dates of my recent Smackdown posts.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that Smackdown was on my DVR last night as it should have been!

The Undertaker is hurt.  It was reported the other day that Taker broke the orbital bone in his face and could possibly be out for the summer.  He’s not dead!  This was a big show (no pun intended) for the crowd.  I saw just this morning that some news outlets were actually reporting that Taker was dead!  That made my morning.

I can’t wait till Hardy gets back on board from his suspension.  I would love to see him and McIntyre in a no holds barred, falls count anywhere match.  I think they could possibly tear the house down.  The animosity between the two competitors is apparent, and I think they could really tell a great story with a match of that caliber.

Nothing beats a good battle royal in my opinion.  I’ve always liked the concept of those type of matches.  That’s why my favorite PPV is the Royal Rumble.  My friend, Bryan, and I were talking about something the other day, and it bears on the outcome of this qualifying match.  We’re both sick of Rey Mysterio.  Yes, Rey can still get it done in the ring, but it’s just getting to a point for me where it’s the same thing every time when it comes to Rey that it isn’t exciting anymore and sometimes downright boring and predictable.  He gets his ass kicked for most of the match and some how, most of the time, pulls out a win.  I spoke about the main idea behind this in my Superstars post from yesterday.  Mysterio is a small guy, and yet when he goes up against the big guys he holds his own and wins a lot of the time.  His size should be a detriment to him in this business, and the big guys should destroy him nine times out of ten.  Good for Rey to get into the match at Fatal 4 Way, but do I want to see him win?  HELL NO!
