Ring of Honor – 6/7/10
After a week off, Ring of Honor is back and even though the main event wasn’t for a title, it still was a pretty good match. Want to know what happened? Well you’re in the right place.
Video Package: The rivalry over the past few months between ROH World Champion Tyler Black, and Roderick Strong. Strong’s still pissed that he hasn’t gotten a fair one on one match with Black, and now he’s got to wait till possibly after Black faces Davey Richards at Death Before Dishonor VIII. Former champion, Austin Aries offers to help Strong, but Roddy wants no part of it.
El Generico vs. Ricky Reyes
WINNER: El Generico via pin fall after hitting the Brain Buster
Video Package: The down fall of El Generico and his former tag team partner Kevin Steen. Also, the involvement of Colt Cabana & Steve Corino into the mix.
- Steen and Generico will square offat Death Before Dishonor VIII.
Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Steve Corino and Kevin Steen. Durden asks Corino about his match tonight with former ROH World Champion, Jerry Lynn. Corino doesn’t believe that he’ll have a problem with Lynn because Corino believes that he’s a better wrestler because he’s more intelligent than Jerry.
- Corino walks out and Durden turns to Steen and asks if has anything to add. Steen offers him some gum. Durden says sure. Steen spits his gum in Durden’s face and walks away.
Steve Corino vs. Jerry Lynn
WINNER: No Contest
- Mid leading to ending, Colt Cabana tried to get involved in match up, stopped by Kevin Steen. They fight on the floor and Corino joins the fray. Kenny King comes out and attacks Lynn.
- Post match, Steen is whooping on Cabana in ring when El Generico tries to run down to the ring. He’s cut off by Corino momentarily and cannot save Cabana from getting hit with the package pile driver. Generico finally able to get in ring to save Cabana just before Steen hits him with a chair.
Video Package: Davey Richards and Tyler Black give comments about where they came from, how they’ve gotten to the ROH World Title match coming June 19th, and what they think about each other going into their match up.
Non-Title Match
Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black (ROH World Champion)
WINNER: Black via small package pin fall after countering a Figure Four Leglock
- Post match, Aries jumps Black and calls for some extra help from the back. Out runs Kenny King, but Jerry Lynn stops him from doing any damage.
- Aries continues to beat up Black when Roderick Strong runs in and starts beating up on Aries. Black and Strong both take shots on Aries, but argue the whole time. Sequence ends with Black hitting a suicide dive over the ropes onto both Strong and Aries.
- Delirious is shown sitting in the crowd watching the whole ordeal.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
Three solid matches from Ring of Honor tonight, but again I can’t help but stress how much I dislike run in endings. Corino and Lynn were putting on a good match until the finish, and then it just went all crazy when four guys ended up stealing the thunder.
It’s nice to know about wrestlers, where they came from, and their back story over the past few months, but it seems like every week it’s the same things. It’s starting to get to be annoying. I’d rather see backstage interview segments with Kyle Durden than video packages.
Main event was good, but I would like to see a major title defended on TV once in awhile (this goes for any fed). I hate the idea of a champion having a one on one match without the title being on the line… It just has never made sense to me, especially when the champion is a baby face who wants to prove he’s the best. My guess is that it has to do with booking and selling a product on a PPV and not giving away a big match for free on TV, but in the scheme of competition and pride, I can’t comprehend it.
