TNA Slammiversary – Results/Review
The Slammiversary party is over, but when it comes down to the results, who is smiling and carrying a title home with them? Read on to find out what went down at TNA’s Slammiversary:
Kurt Angle vs. Kazarian
WINNER: Angle via submission after locking on the Ankle Lock
- I’m not shocked at all that Angle won. The crowd seemed really into this match up. Kazarian put up a gallant effort, but he was no match for the Olympic gold medalist.
X-Division Title Match
Doug Williams (Champion) vs. Brian Kendrick
WINNER: Williams via pin fall after hitting a Tornado DDT to retain the X-Division Title
- Decent mix of Kendrick’s flying and Williams’ technical strong-style. I’m glad they kept the belt on Williams. We’ll see who they throw out next for him to reeducate on the art of pro wrestling.
Knockout’s Title Match
Roxxi vs. Madison Rayne (Champion)
WINNER: Madison via pin fall after hitting a version of a Neck Breaker to retain the KO’s Title
- Madison baited Roxxi into putting her career on the line before the match. With Roxxi losing, her career with TNA is officially over, and that’s two people Madison has forced to leave TNA (first was Tara). Roxxi was a bloody mess after Madison hit her with a microphone before the match started.
Jesse Neal vs. Brother Ray
WINNER: Neal via pin fall after hitting a Spear
- It originally looked like Ray was coming to his senses before the match, but swerved everyone and continued his assault on the rookie. This match had a big surprise in it. There was a special appearance by Tommy Dreamer who came through the crowd and distracted Ray enough to allow Neal to get the victory.
Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez
WINNER: Morgan via DQ
- Hernandez went off on Morgan and in the process got pissed off at referee Brian Hebner for trying to stop it that he threw him across the ring… Instant DQ. After the match Hernandez wanted to destroy Morgan’s arm, wrapping it around the post. He went to go kick Morgan, but Hebner got in the way and gets kicked instead. Referees tend to the young Hebner.
Monster’s Ball Match
Desmond Wolfe vs. Abyss with Chelsea
WINNER: Abyss via pin fall after using brass knuckles to Wolfe’s head followed by a Black Hole Slam
- This match is Abyss’ “signature match” and he needs help from the little woman at ring side to get the victory. Chelsea was the one who threw the knucks to Abyss and completely turned her back on Wolfe.
Jay Lethal vs. AJ Styles with Ric Flair
WINNER: Lethal via pin fall after a counter Northern Light’s Suplex with a bridge
- Lethal may have “stolen” another victory, but I’m glad that he did. Flair is always involved in the matches, and after the match finished up, he had words for AJ. Kazarian even came out to help with damage control which somewhat shocked me.
Mr. Anderson & Jeff Hardy vs. Beer Money Inc.
WINNERS: Anderson/Hardy via pin fall after Anderson hit the Mic Check on Robert Roode
- Beer Money showed how they’re a great tag team, but weren’t spot on when it came to the entire match up. Hardy & Anderson proved that they can work together, and scored a victory. After the match, both Anderson and Hardy announced themselves as winners of the match.
TNA World Title Match
Rob Van Dam (Champion) vs. Sting
WINNER: RVD via pin fall after hitting the Five Star Frog Splash to retain the World Title
- The mind games were over when the bell rang, and these two guys took it to each other tonight. Sting took advantage of a ref bump using his baseball bat, and it looks like maybe Sting’s going to take home the belt. However, Sting doesn’t realize that his nemesis Jeff Jarrett is behind him. Jarrett steals the bat and hammers Sting with it a few times, but because of the ref bump, Earl Hebner doesn’t count fast enough. Eventually, RVD finally puts The Icon away with the Frog Splash.
