Ring of Honor – 6/14/10

In the final Ring of Honor on HDNet showing before their big Death Before Dishonor VIII show in Toronto, the ROH superstars got their last bits of smack talk out of their system and are ready to show the world who the best really is.  Here’s what went down on last night’s episode of ROH:

Christopher Daniels vs. Bobby Shields
WINNER: Daniels via pin fall after hitting the Best Moonsault Ever (BME)

  • Post match, Daniels takes the mic.  “Whe I returned to the ROH ring, I confronted Davey Richards because he was calling himself the best in the world, but that wasn’t meant to single out one wrestler.  That was a call to every talented wrestler in the back because if you’re a pro wrestler and you want to be the best in the world, you come to the ring that says Ring of Honor on it’s canvas… I have come back not to prove, but to teach… I will teach them that when you talk about the best in the world, the name you should mention is Christopher Daniels.”

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Steve Corino and asks about his match later tonight with Colt Cabana.  Corino shows Durden “The List” of all the people he hates, and with all the recent actions of Colt, he’s been re-added to the list.  Steve claims that he’s going to prove to Colt that all that has happened over the last few months, could’ve been avoided.

  • Kevin Steen who’s sitting in the background starts talking.  “El Generico, the whole world saw me turn on you… six months later, we’ll stand in an ROH ring… I stand by everything I’ve said and done… No matter what happens to me, I stand by what I’ll do to El Generico.”
  • Video Package: Clips from Final Battle NYC where Steen turned on Generico, and the fall out in the weeks after.

Kyle Durden is now ringside, and he’s got a special guest, Mike Briscoe, father of the Briscoe Bros.  He claims that him sitting ringside is part one of his Father’s Day gift and that part two will be when his boys win the Tag Team Titles from the Kings of Wrestling in Toronto at Death Before Dishonor VIII.

Briscoe Bros. (Jay & Mark Briscoe) vs. Sid Reeves & Bob Evans
WINNERS: Briscoes via pin fall after Jay hits the J-Drilla on Reeves

Video Package: Kyle Durden talking with ringside fans before the show on who they think will win the World Title match between challenger Davey Richards, and ROH Champion, Tyler Black this weekend at Death Before Dishonor VIII.

Kings of Wrestling come to the ringside area to talk smack to daddy Briscoe who’s sitting in the front row.  They brag about themselves and then criticize him for making the same mistake twice of not using a condom to get two dumb children.

  • Daddy Briscoe jumps the rail, pushes down security, and then slaps Chris Hero in the face as Claudio Castagnoli just stands there in shock.  Hero fires back with a forearm to Briscoe’s head knocking him to the ground.
  • Briscoe Bros. come running out to defend their dad, and the Kings run for the hills.

Video Package: Kyle Durden talking with talent in the back about who they think will win the World Title match between challenger Davey Richards, and ROH Champion, Tyler Black this weekend at Death Before Dishonor VIII.  Most believe that it’ll be Davey.

Colt Cabana vs. Steve Corino
WINNER: Corino via instant DQ of Colt when he threw down the referee

  • Match got chaotic on the outside when the instant DQ occurred.  Cabana stuck Corino between two tables, and lined up a chair with his face.  He then slid another chair across the table into the chair, into Corino’s face.  Steve is now a bloody mess.  Colt then throws Corino back in ring and sets up a table in the corner.
  • Steve Corino’s 14 year old son comes to the ring and begs Colt to stop.  It was a distraction so that Kevin Steen could attack him from behind.  They beat on Colt for a bit until El Generico comes out to help Colt, but he gets tossed to the outside, giving Steen a chance to Spear Cabana twice through a stubborn table that didn’t break completely.
  • Generico gets back in the ring and takes it to Steen.  Generico gets best of exchange and knocks Steen out of ring then flies over top rope landing on him.  Generico sees a table and sets Steen on it.  He goes up to the top for a splash, but before he can jump, Corino pulls Steen out of the way.

Backstage: Kyle Durden is with Roderick Strong and he’s asked about his prediction for the main event of Death Before Dishonor VIII.  Strong is upset with the question because he’s still pissed off that he was screwed over by referees and ROH in his match with Tyler Black.  He spouts off about how the outcome will end up with someone getting screwed over.

Jim Cornette comes to the ring and announces the contract signing for the ROH World Title at Death Before Dishonor VIII.  He introduces Davey Richards (who comes to ring with Eddie Edwards & Shane Hagadorn), and Champion, Tyler Black.

  • Richards signs and comments, “Every time these people see me, they say ‘best in the world.’  I’m going to prove them right.”
  • Black signs and comments, “I don’t care if you think you’re the best in the world, I have all the proof I need right here.  I AM the best in the world, and you will not get the job done.
  • Richards comes back, “After I beat you, there will be no doubt I am the best.  Eddie, Shane, you guys stay in the locker room on this one.”
  • Interrupted by Christopher Daniels.  “Now if this were ordinary wrestling, I’d challenge the winner of the match, but this is Ring of Honor.  I’m here to challenge the both of you, one on one because you each have something I want.  Davey, you have the support and popular opinion of the fans.  Tyler, you have a tangible argument of being the best.  Good luck Saturday… No matter what happens, I’ll teach everyone that Christopher Daniels is the best in the world.”

Video Package: Preview for Death Before Dishonor VIII.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

It was really great to see “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels back in the ring.  He got a pretty easy win against Bobby Shields, but I’m glad that he’s putting ROH on notice.  He’s a great competitor, and deserves to be in the spotlight of the World Title picture.

ROH has been drilling us for so long with the Steen/Generico feud.  I’m sort of glad that DBD VIII is this weekend so that maybe next week we won’t have to view the same video package pieces.

I was in shock when Daddy Briscoe jumped the rail and slapped the taste out of Chris Hero’s mouth.  I was excited when he actually forearmed him back!  There’s been promos cut to get this rivalry hyped up, but this was one great way of getting people pissed off at the Kings of Wrestling.  Now I hope the Briscoes beat their asses at DBD VIII.

Colt and Corino wasn’t really a wrestling match, but more of a sanctioned brawl.  They were on the outside for most of the match.  It’s not a bad thing that Colt got DQ’d, but I feel bad for him taking two Spears through a table that was being stubborn and wouldn’t break completely.  Now I’ve never been slammed or speared through a table, but I’m guessing it might hurt a little bit more when it doesn’t break than when it does… Either way, OUCH!

I’m shocked that the contract signing didn’t turn into a brawl.  I guess I’m just accustomed to watching WWE that I expect people to not be civil nor have any honor.
