Smackdown – 6/18/10
Last night was the final chance for the Smackdown superstars to make an impact before heading into the Fatal 4 Way PPV. Who would gain an advantage, and who would stumble into this weekend? Find out here:
Video Package: Last week, Kane is still on the hunt for his brother’s (The Undertaker‘s) attacker. Kane takes out his frustrations on the competitors in the World Heavyweight Title Fatal 4 Way match.
CM Punk to the ring, “This Sunday I win my 4th World Title…” He reminds the crowd that he’s the only person to make The Undertaker tap out, and he wishes that Taker was healthy so that he can do it again at Fatal 4 Way. Punk then says that he cannot claim putting Taker out of action, but he’ll shake the hand of the person(s) who did. “Life has been so much better without The Undertaker…”
- Lights flicker. Go out for a moment then back on. The Undertaker is standing in the middle of the ring. Punk looks frightened… Not really because the hat comes off, and it’s Luke Gallows in a wig.
- Kane takes exception to their actions and heads down to the ring. Unfortunately for him, Jack Swagger jumps him from behind (IT’S A TRAP!!!). Turns into a four on one beat down when the unknown assassin of the Straightedge Society joins the fray.
- Rey Mysterio & Big Show run down and the ring clears. Mysterio hits a 619 on Kane and then Big Show follows it up with a Choke Slam. Show then says to Kane as he’s laid out, “I had nothing to do with The Undertaker. Nothing will stop me from being World Heavyweight Champion.
Video Package: Sept. 2009 – Drew McIntyre signed by Vince McMahon himself.
MVP & Christian vs. Curt Hawkins & Vance Archer
WINNERS: Hawkins/Archer via pin fall after hitting the Reverse DDT/Elbow Drop combo
- Post match, Hawkins & Archer hit same combo on MVP.
Backstage: LayCool walking and talking with Kaval following them, holding their belts. They’re approached by Rosa Mendes who wants to be part of their group. LayCool tease her about her win/loss record and make her run off crying.
Video Package: Mar. 2010 – Drew McIntyre loses his first match, but has Mr. McMahon order Teddy Long to ex-sponge it from the record.
Backstage: Vickie Guerrero is talking with Chavo Guerrero… In walks Dolph Ziggler who was forced to wear short shorts and a tool belt by Vickie to help her put up a picture. She uses this as a chance to stare at his backside.
- Chris Masters walks into the room to ask her a question and then realizes that she’s not listening and staring at Dolph that he walks out slightly disturbed.
Video Package: May 2010 – Matt Hardy and Drew McIntyre brawl it out. McIntyre refuses to stop after security intervenes, and Teddy long fires him.
JTG vs. Chavo Guerrero
WINNER: JTG via pin fall after hitting the Shout Out
Backstage: Josh Matthews is with Kofi Kingston. He asks about the deck being stacked because of McIntyre being tight with Vince McMahon. Kofi responds, “Deck stacked or not, it’s going to be a fight… I do have a problem with the chairman putting Teddy Long in a match with Drew McIntyre… Nothing good can come of this… What is good, walking into Fatal 4 Way and walking out still the Intercontinental Champion.
Video Package: May 2010 – Kofi Kingston wins an Intercontinental Title tournament. However, Mr. McMahon reverses the firing of Drew McIntyre and has Teddy Long award him the title.
Video Package: June 2010 Kofi Kingston sticks up for Teddy Long against Drew McIntyre. Drew later informs of Teddy that they’re going to have a match (which is next).
Drew McIntyre comes to the ring for the match. Teddy Long’s music hits, but he doesn’t walk to the ring. Drew grabs the microphone and tells Teddy to get out here or he’s fired.
- Teddy comes out in a suit, not really ready to wrestle. Drew tells him, “I don’t care if you’re in a suit Teddy, I’m going to tear you apart, and just to prevent Matt Hardy and Kofi Kingston from interfering, I’ve hired my own private security (ten security guards walk to ring side). Drew has the referee check Teddy for weapons, and then tries to bait Teddy into hitting him. Teddy’s frightened.
- Drew then starts to get aggressive with Teddy. He tells Teddy to get down on his knees, and then forces him to say that he’s the chosen one. He then has Teddy lay down on his back… (bell rings).
Drew McIntyre vs. Teddy Long
WINNER: McIntyre via pin fall
- Post match, McIntyre grabs him by the shoulder and then goes to hit the Futureshock DDT, but Kofi Kingston’s music hits. Kofi runs down, but he’s being held back by security. McIntyre uses the security to help him beat up Kofi. Out of nowhere, Matt Hardy jumps the rail from the crowd and attacks McIntyre. Security pulls him off, and then McIntyre beats him down. Drew throws him back in the ring and hits the Futureshock DDT. Drew has security throw Kofi in the ring and he also hits him with a Futureshock DDT.
Non-Title Match
Layla with Michelle McCool vs. Kelly Kelly with Tiffany
WINNER: Kelly Kelly via pin fall after hitting the K2 Leg Drop
Backstage: Josh Matthews with World Champion, Jack Swagger. Josh asks him about being in the ring tonight with his competitors on Sunday. Swagger reminisces about his past and says, “No one remembers silver!” He’s going to dedicate his win at Fatal 4 Way to his daddy!
Vickie Guerrero comes to the ramp to introduce Dolph Ziggler.
Dolph Ziggler with Vickie Guerrero vs. Chris Masters
WINNER: Ziggler via pin fall after hitting the Zig Zag
Rey Mysterio & Big Show vs. CM Punk with SES & Jack Swagger
WINNERS: Rey/Show via pin fall after Rey counters Swagger’s Gut Wrench Power Bomb to a cross body/senton type move.
- Post match, Kane comes out and clears the ring. Everyone gets destroyed. Kane takes the mic, “One of you is already in hell. Sunday will be fatal for the guilty party.”
- A casket is shown at the top of the ramp. Kane stares out at it, and kneels in the ring (Taker’s pose – hand raised).
QUICK THOUGHTS:
Glad to actually get to watch Smackdown on Friday. I just wish I wasn’t so busy today that I could’ve gotten it out first thing in the morning.
The opening promo was slightly ironic. CM Punk and Gallows did the segment with an Undertaker costume. The reason why it’s ironic is because Gallows back in the day used to be a “Fake” Kane. He’s come full circle now!
In the real world, MVP and Christian would NEVER lose to Hawkins and Archer, but in WWE “push-land” of course they’ll upset the two veterans.
I’m so sick of this whole angle with Vickie and Dolph. In all honesty, I don’t know what Eddie Guerrero ever saw in her because she’s an eyesore. The funniest comment of the night went to Todd Grisham who said, “Her voice (Vickie) is more annoying than a vuvuzela!” If you’re a FIFA World Cup fan, you know that those are the crazy horns that are constantly making noise throughout the soccer matches. They are very, very, FN annoying! I laughed at the comment.
The whole Drew McIntyre vs. Teddy Long segment was so dumb and an absolute waste of time!
The main event wasn’t the greatest for me. I’m getting very sick of the whole Kane on a rampage thing, so I’m intrigued to see if he makes himself a factor in the World Title match, and if it adds to the match or not.
