WWE SummerSlam – Preview/Predictions
It’s time for the biggest party of the summer, and WWE has descended upon Los Angeles, California for SummerSlam 2010. There are six matches set for the card already, and maybe a few more surprises will be in store for the WWE Universe. Here’s a look at all the happenings tonight on PPV:
Intercontinental Title Match
Dolph Ziggler (Champion) vs. Kofi Kingston
SHOULD: Kingston WILL: Kingston
- Ziggler finally captured the Intercontinental Title from Kingston a few short weeks ago with help from his girlfriend and Smackdown Consultant, Vickie Guerrero. Since then, Kofi has had a new, angry demeanor that we haven’t seen very often. This rematch was just made this past Friday on Smackdown after Teddy Long was determined not to let Ziggler & Guerrero sneak away on vacation. I believe that Kofi deserves the belt more, and should win this match up, but it will be the mean streak inside of him that will propel him to victory.
Handicap Match
Big Show vs. Straightedge Society (Joey Mercury, CM Punk & Luke Gallows with Serena)
SHOULD: SES WILL: Show
- Ever since Big Show unmasked CM Punk showing off his bald head, the SES has been targeting Big Show. Show has gotten the best of them a few times even once unmasking the 4th member, Joey Mercury. Since then, Punk has targeted the Big Show’s hand trying to prevent him from landing the KO Punch. Will Show be able to outlast the three on one handicap? Personally, I don’t think he should be able to win this match, but knowing WWE, he probably will. The sad part, it’s not like these are three schmucks who can’t wrestle. You’re talking about a former World Champion, a former tag team champion, and a pissed off tag team veteran.
WWE Championship Match
Sheamus (Champion) vs. Randy Orton
SHOULD: Sheamus WILL: Sheamus
- This rivalry has been very heated as of late. Orton has gotten into Sheamus’ head, and the champion proved it last Monday when he snapped on the NXT Rookies. Orton is by far more ready for this big match, but I have a feeling that Sheamus will somehow pull out the victory.
- One thing to watch out for is The Miz and his Money in the Bank case. My gut feeling is that he’s going to try. The kicker is the fact that the past few times he’s tried, something has happened and people have gotten involved before the bell rang. This time, I feel that it’ll at least get started, and then someone will get involved causing a DQ and no title change.
Diva’s Title Match
Alicia Fox (Champion) vs. Melina
SHOULD: Melina WILL: Fox
- Alicia Fox thought she ran through every diva in the division, but with Melina’s return from injury, she was proven incorrect. Since her return, Melina has a non-title victory against Fox prompting the anonymous General Manager of RAW to make this match. I think that Melina being back brings some legitimacy to the Diva’s division, but I don’t think that WWE will give her the title this soon after returning. They’re going to let Fox’s title run go as far as they can milk it. Tonight, I think Fox will retain.
World Heavyweight Title Match
Kane (Champion) vs. Rey Mysterio
SHOULD: Kane WILL: Mysterio
- This match up has been one of the hottest rivalries in WWE, not because of the in ring action, but because of the accusations of who attacked The Undertaker. Kane claims that his brother awoke from his vegetative state for only a moment and mentioned Rey Mysterio by name. Mysterio denies this and points the finger of blame back at Kane because he had motive to do it. Ultimately Kane is seeking vengeance against Rey and wants to stuff him in a casket. I think Kane will dominate this match, but Rey will figure out a way to sneak out with the victory. That doesn’t mean he’ll win the World Title though… I think there might be some outside interference from The Dead Man himself.
Elimination Match
The Nexus vs. Team WWE
SHOULD: Nexus WILL: Team WWE
- The Nexus has been causing havoc on RAW for many weeks now. Team WWE has had their ups and downs with their members. This match is going to be about team work. We all know that the Nexus can work together, but if WWE can stay on the same page they have a good chance at winning. Plus, we do not know if they have a seventh member or not. If they do, there’s a good possibility that it’s “Game Over” for The Nexus.
Tonight’s SummerSlam PPV starts at 5pm PST/8pm EST. I’ll be back tomorrow with all the results and my take on what went down. Till then…
