Raw 01/17/11 Review

Here is what went down this past Monday on Raw:

-Show opens up with Cena coming down to the ring. He then starts talking about what happened three weeks ago on Raw after showing a clip of him getting attacked by CM Punk. Cena also talks about his new years resolutions: Beat CM Punk, win the Royal Rumble, and go on to Wrestlemania and become the new WWE Champion. Then the Miz’s music hits and the Miz starts saying that since he’s been champ, he’s made Raw viewable to watch again. Miz also talks about his Royal Rumble match he has against Randy Orton and that who ever wins the Rumble will end up like Orton, a loser.Cena then interrupts the Miz by saying that during two of his defenses that he’s done nothing more then take the dirty way out and that if you have a problem with that, then he should do something about it. CM Punk’s music hits and he comes out along with the other members of Nexus. CM Punk says that Miz doesn’t have to prove anything cause he is the WWE Champion. He then talks about Cena’s chances of winning the Royal Rumble match and saying that it’ll be from a very small one, to nothing. Nexus then goes to the ring to attack Cena. Without CM Punk, they attack Cena and Cena is getting beat. Santino and Kozlov come out to even the odds. Nexus retreats to CM Punk. CM Punk talks to Nexus and they all go back to the ring. The Raw GM then post a message about Cena’s and CM Punk’s match later tonight. He says that Nexus is barred from ring side, because if any member gets involved that they will be out of the Royal Rumble.

Match #1: The Usos VS Santino & Kozlov (WWE Unified Tag Team Championship Match)
Winner: Santino & Kozlov
Rating: Poor

Match #2: John Morrison VS Daniel Bryan
Winner: John Morrison
Rating: Good

Match #3: Dolph Ziggler VS Randy Orton
Winner: Randy Orton
Rating: Good

Match #4: Maryse VS Natalya
Winner: Natalya
Rating: Decent

Match #5: Ted Dibiase VS Mark Henry (Over the Top Rope Challenge)
Winner: Mark Henry
Rating: Pointless

Match #6: CM Punk VS John Cena
Winner: John Cena by DQ
Rating: Good/Poor

Final Thoughts: During the whole night on Raw, I was wondering what happened to CM Punk’s right eye? It looked like he got into a fight with a garden hose, and it won. Or maybe he got himself into a bit of trouble with someone and started fighting said person. Either way, that mark on his eye was pretty obvious. Though from the looks of it coming into his match against Cena that WWE management noticed the mark and did some makeup work to cover it up, to me it just felt pointless to be honest. Cause everyone saw it, so what was done was done.

Out of all the funniest moments on Raw that I have seen in a very long time, the “World’s Strongest Man” commercial that they had with one of the NXT rookies had me laughing so hard. Even though it felt out of place, it was a good addition to keep the show moving. The reaction that he gave when Mark Henry started talking about what was in the bottle was funny. However we all can agree, that stuff stinks.

Matches for tonight wasn’t so bad either. The only problem with tonight that I had was Usos not picking up the victory to finally get them the tag team gold. I honestly am tired of WWE not giving these young guys the push as of late cause they are rely good in ring. But if you look at it this way, the WWE doesn’t rely have any other tag teams left. So if you keep The Usos down and keep Santino and Kozlov up, the tag team division will drop. So come up with more teams WWE, cause you got yourselves a dieing division on your hands.
